Yet another quality product from VIA. http://www.pcabusers.net/forums/images/icons/evil.gif

ABIT and Asus (http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/mainboards/display/20030322170600.html) have both canceled their KT400A Mainboards.

And VIA announced the KT600 chipset (http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/chipsets/display/20030318152528.html) which people were pleased to hear was on the way.

"Following the recent launch of its K7-based KT400A chipset, VIA is planning to release one more product, the KT600, for the AMD platform in May. According to sources, the KT600 (codenamed KT400A-CE) is pin-to-pin compatible with the KT400A (codenamed KT400A-CD), but is designed to support a 400MHz FSB. The KT400A only supports a 333MHz FSB."

Yeah the monkey is confused
Via released kt400A with 333 fsb :lame: . I don't
know but the number 400A it was better sticked
on a 400fsb product , 600 for a 400fsb is confusing . I like what nvidia did with the nforce 2 : 400fsb and 400mhz ddr ,it's a overclocker dream even that is no "official"
axp with 400 fsb . You can have the 400fsb now :D for free .

Some good articles

While a move to 400MHz bus speed sounds good and all, the only chipset on the market that currently supports this nVIDIA's nForce2. Users who want to jump on the 400MHz bus-speed-bandwagon will need to upgrade their older motherboards to nForce2 based platforms to run their AGP/PCI's in sync. While it's true many VIA KT400 and KT333 based motherboards can run at 400MHz without problems, most videocards and PCI devices do not handle high AGP/PCI speeds well for a prolonged period of time. Nforce2 mainboards such as the Asus A7N8X nForce2-SPP, MSI K7N2G-ILSR ,Epox 8RDA+, FIC AU11, and MSI K7N2-L all fall under that envelope.

Athlon XP 1700+ Overclocked To 2.4GHz! (with a nforce2 board and yeah with the 400+ fsb too)

Envy News is going to get a KT400A board, should be one of the first mfr boards (not from VIA themselves), so we're gonna tell it like it is, stay tuned!

I thought id seen a review of a KT400A at anandtech recentley? It seemed to perform reasonably well compared to the nforce2, wasnt as good though still.

Personally even if it was faster i still wouldnt touch it with a barge poll - anyone that has used a VIA board usually doesnt again ;)

ya, definately not as good as an nF2, at least in most benchies...

most of the systems i built for other people were non via. I can't wait to get a new board later in the year. I can't sit stuck on a 200bus board [see specs] any longer ~! my processor has been underachieving ;)

Your joking arent you ;) My KT3Ultra is a damn fine board, and everyone who has one will pretty much say the samething. No problems with my SbLive either, just a solid, fast, stable board, cant ask for more than that :)

I wouldn't support VIA just because of their ridiculous practices...regardless of whether or not they've shaped up their act. and after the KT400 debacle they basically haven't ;)

and with this latest KT400A and KT600 news it looks like VIA is still up to its normal BS policy.

first we have the KT266, it has lackluster performance and gets slapped around by AMD and SiS.

so they release KT266A. ok, all good here, the performance is the best at the time, only why wasn't this the first board we saw

then VIA releases the KT333 which supports DDR333 and has the same performance as the KT266A. now that we have 333FSB AMD CPUs I guess it has some uses....but the same thing could have been achieved with a BIOS update for the KT266A.

VIA releases the KT400 which is supposed to support DDR400. it has lots of trouble and only officially supports DDR333 because of it. in essence it is the same chipset as the KT333!

KT400A brings performance up to par with the nforce2 and supports a 333FSB.

VIA plans a KT600 which sounds like the same board as the KT400A but supports a 400FSB. great. you couldn't just support a 333FSB and 400FSB like nforce2, you have to release two motherboards to get the job done

VIA = :lame:
