I picked up EDF last night for the 360. I saw some pretty crap reviews, but I gotta say, as a 34 year old male who spent hours and hours in the arcade in my younger years, EDF is awesome. It has a very retro feel that I haven't gotten out of a current game in a long, long time. It's very simplistic, very campy, the voice acting is horrendous, and while the graphics aren't horrible, they're not going to make anyone stare in awe. What will make them stare in awe are the huge robots and boss battles littered throughout the game, like dino-mech and the land fortress missions. I'm only up to level 22, but I'm still totally hooked on playing. It reminds me a lot of Serious Sam mixed with ID4 mixed with old Godzilla movies.
9/10 from me, I think anyone into retro 80's gaming will want to dig into this one.

part of the reason i loved japanese consoles in the first place was the dodgy games you could buy for them with your converters and stuff :)
have you played 2 player yet?

Only for about 5 hours this morning with my kids :P.
Coop is cool as hell, I just wish you could do it over XBL. Regardless tho, even in split screen it's awesome.
Took me forever to figure out how to use the in-game vehicles, which is the Select button, but those are pretty cool too, although I prefer to be on foot most of the time.

I just finished the game on easy the other day. In a way this game is actually awful but at the same time I just had lots of fun..and yes..I'm 30 years old and this does have a retro arcade feel to it. The vehicle controls are just awful and anyways its better to run around on foot so its no big deal. I really would like to see the devs be given a higher budget and a better engine and from there put in more enemy and environment variety, even more weapons and 2+ players online co-op and even more huge ass godzilla monsters. I'll get it for sure.
Bumping an old thread, but I have to say, I just picked up this game with a friend over the weekend. Simply amazing. We went straight for Hard difficulty and the game is so chaotic and challenging like that. It's also great how a lot of the weapons are actually uniquely suited for different situations. There was one mission with nothing but giant walking robots that we won just by firing 1400 dmg prominence missiles up into the sky for a few minutes, and let them home on their targets, since as soon as the robots saw us, they'd often rape us to death. And the bounds guns? Priceless in the tunnel missions since it just sends about a million rounds of hot wall bouncing death spiraling into things around the corners.
I think all in all, we put around 12 hours into that game this weekend. Simply awesome. Was worth the $40 price of admission almost immediately.
