Found this nugget in the forums over at widescreengaming. It works for me.

Boot with the monitor powered off. Once at the desktop fire up the monitor, go to the control panel, change the setting to whatever you like (fixed aspect ratio), enjoy gaming with the proper screen aspect until your next reboot (because you will probably forget to power off the monitor during boot ;) ). Not sure if powering on at the login screen will work as I auto login.

Goofy but it works.

Since I'm here I'll add that I got a second GTX for the wife and installed 165.01 for her (1900XT previous). Connecting to a Westy 22". Initially had to tell the driver to not treat panel as an HDTV to get the scaling options, but once I had them the scaling option in XP is working as it should (no tricks, just select and saves setting).

Hope this helps some of you frustrated folks like myself...

Nice little trick.
Its amazing how a simple work around like that fixes it and Nvidia still cant solve it properly.

Will try with my LCD tonight and see how it fairs.
Thanks :)
