anyone know of a good drive stress tester for windows? i have a raid array of 6 drives and one of the drives is making a random skipping noise and i cant tell which one it is. so what i guess im going to do is break the array and test each drive seperatly untill i find the broken one....

thanks

Have you tried putting a tip of a flathead screwdriver on the drive and your ear on the handle? That's usually a good way to detect what part is the culprit without actually having to physically isolate components. Just make sure to discharge any built up static on your and the screwdriver first.

As for a stress test, I would suggest Sisoft Sandra.

well most of the time when a drive has an error, it would register in SMART.

one of the readings would be slightly off. you could just try program HDD Tune, which will show you SMART stat, see if one of them stands out.

actually i have tried that and i couldnt figure out which drive it was because of all the drives in the case. what i figured is that i would run the test and listen for a halfhour or so to each drive independantly.

Sisoft Sandracan this run for a set amount of time?
