I've installed the NV driver many times on my other system (Intel) but I'm running into a big roadblock on my new machine.

I have the machine dualbooted, and the Win98 driver supplied by MSI works fine.

On the linux side, I installed the newest driver from Nvidia using the athalon RPM. I edited the Xf86Config file. I rebooted. When X was started, all I get is a digital hash.

I have looked at the XF86log and there appear to be no errors. The driver finds the card, gets the right modes, etc. But it just doesn't work.

I am using a Viewsonic VX900 DFP, and have included the "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP" option, but with no effect.

Anyone have an idea what might be going on here?

was the rpm a source of pre-compiled? If it was precompiled, check to make sure it matched your kernel version.

I first tried the precompiled athalon RH8.0 rpm.

When it didn't work, I tried building and installing the SRPM. I have not yet tried just using the tarball.

But I suspect the problem is one of configuration more than a kernel mismatch. There are no errors related to loading the driver module. In fact, there are no errors in any of the log files, and the /proc/driver/nvidia "files" all look like everything is working. (I see the video bios version, AGP is reported as enabled at 8x, etc.) But all I get is a hash on my screen.

I would be happy to post the X86 log file, the cat/proc files, the xf86config file, and any other files that you think might be useful....
