Hi,

today I will be replacing my Venice with an X2 4400+ processor and would like to know some things before I venture to do so:

1) Of course I will be resetting my BIOS CMOS before the switch, but should I also reinstall Windows? Or is it enough to just uninstall the AMD Cool'n'Quiet driver and app? Also, should I then also uninstall anything from Device Manager?

2) I have heard there's a dual-core fix to be downloaded from AMD, can anyone tell me what this does and is it necessary?

3) Is there a good app to monitor each core's usage?

Thank you for your answers :D

1) Is better to reinstall Windows, the ACPI changes to Multiprocessor ACPI but you can uninstall drivers from AMD and give a try.

2) yes, dual core optimizer and the AMD driver http://www.amd.com/es-es/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html

3) Core temp does the job for temperatures, and for monitor core usage use task manager

Exactly as wolfhound said- except for #3. I prefer Everest as that will show pretty much everything I'd every need to know- temps, voltages, core usage, etc. Great program. ;)

I honestly wouldn't reinstall windows for CPU upgrade myself.

Uninstall any AMD related drivers or programs you might have installed, and then install the Dual Core specific software after you have the new chip in.

That should be more than enough.

You do not need to reinstall to go from uniprocessor to multiprocessor. I believe its the other way around and Windows has issues.

The 4400+ is a great processor, I pushed mine to 2.6GHz, I could have got it to 2.7GHz or maybe more, but I'm worried about damaging it by giving it too much voltage.
