Wow 2900 XT are really very power hungry card.

2900 XT will refuse to operate and running with PSUs less than 750W. It will need 750W or higher.

I really doubt that its true to be honest. I'll say about a 500watt psu.

Take manufacturers power supply requirements with a grain of salt. Hell doesn't NVidia say you need a huge power supply for the 8800GTX as well?

The reason why they post such huge requirements is because the average consumer, to put it lightly, is an idiot. All that means is that the ****tiest 750W PSU should run the 2900XT, however it doesn't say the required amperage on the 12V rail, so again, it should probably run on a quality 500W PSU.

the 6800U recommended a 450W didnt it?
I recall some guy running one in his Shuttle case with a 200W PSU for about 24 hours in 3dmark without any problems at launch.
Ofcourse they have pretty efficient PSUs.

Wow you are so full of ****.Belive anything Fuad writes.

Hi there

Our system had an Enermax 1000W PSU.

I have the ATI Tech/Fact sheet here so upto 200W is requirement at stock clocks with 2x6pin connectors.

If overclocking then you need 1x8pin and 1x6pin connected and then it consumes upto 225W.

I hope ATI don't bash me for stating this but I don't want misleading information such as that going around.

Fact is a decent quality 400-500W PSU will run of these cards fine if your running a Core 2 DUO system or Athlon X2 based system.

Nope it not Fuad, I believed in AMD official HD 2900 XT document, it probably had final changes in minimum system req. Gibbo was clueless about benchmarks. I think the reason AMD want to use 750W probably bring 2900 XT in line to compete with 8800 GTS, if use 500W then 2900 XT would not perform as fast as when used 750W. It happened to some people with 450W PSU who complained slower 7800/7900/8800 performance.

That has nothing to do with this, what you're talking about there is automatic clock scaling, not decreasing the speeds all together. What it sounds like you're trying to say is that ATI have basically decided to release the 2900 XT with a higher core voltage so that they can run higher clock speeds. I don't think that's the case... and I don't think this 750w requirement has any sort of truth behind it.

Please, stop posting bs stories as fact.

Yeah, XFX put in the Geforce8800GTS box "Minimum power requirement 460W recommended 600W"

I'm sure any decent 500+ watt PSU like mine (Antec NeoHE 550) will run it fine, just like they do the 8800GTX's.

Mines running perfectly fine on a 400 watt psu.

Seriously though, the X2900 is not drastically different in performance to the 8800s, so unless its just poor design, it shouldnt really go significantly over 200W.
