View Full Version : How can you guys stand the ugly Vista fonts?
I've been running Vista for a few months now, and absolutely can't stand the blurry fonts in Vista any more. The fonts in the latest 158.18 nvidia Control Panel are just terrible. :(

Turn off Cleartype. ;)
Already did, but still looks blurry.

I don't wear glasses. I have 20/20, possibly better vision.

If you don't want to disable Cleartype completely you can adjust it with TweakVI (http://www.totalidea.com/content/tweakvi/tweakvi-index.html).
It should be included in the free version and I hope it helps

Hahaha what a classic episode. :D
Is it blurry in everything, or just IE? IE has its own cleartype setting under advanced internet settings. Cleartype defaults on and, IMO, it looks worse on CRTs.

IE is fine after turning off Cleartype within it. Completely disabling Cleartype and Standard effects in the OS helps too, but then the fonts would look skinny and pixelated. I'm gonna try the TweakVI later, don't wanna use the registry patch though.
Try a better monitor ^^
Suggest me a good one then. :) I experience this font issue with both my Dell 2407 and 2707 running Vista. XP is perfectly fine though, and luckiy I have a dual boot setup.
EDIT
Take a look at the screenshots here, and see what I mean by "blurry":

Can't you change the system's font?
Start->Personalization->Windows Color and Appearance->Open classic appearance properties for more color options
From in there you can click on the text that bothers you and change it to something else.
I think the blurriness has something to do with AA being used on the fonts. I don't know. Think I'm just gonna try the registry patch and see if it helps.

I couldn't notice any blurring in those screenies- and I have perfect eye sight. I think you're just too picky. :p
Hope that patch works for ya'.

Maybe I am too picky I'm just so used to XP fonts. Anyways, downloaded the patch but WinZip can't open the file.

I don't know what filetype it is, but use winrar instead of winzip, it supports WAY more filetypes.

The screenshots you posted are indeed cleartype effects.
If those screenshots taken by external camera then you need to tune your monitor.
At my last job they had a program to change elartype's direction, left or right. Depending on the monitor it can make it look horrid, or much better. Maybe yours is set wrong.

You mean the PowerToy cleartype tuner?
