For those who don't know the new linkin park album is out, grabbed my copy (with limited edition dvd :D) today.
First impressions: After two listens im thinking its certainly not as consistant as the last album. Although this is quite a good thing. One or two tracks are either yet to grow on me or just poor, which is unlike hybrid theory, however when meteora is good?! MY GOD, this thing is phenomenal about 75% of the time. Most of the tracks i enjoy and theres a few contenders for best ever on there. edit: (best linkin park ever ;))
No doubt its gonna grow on me further as all good music should, however i wanted to post this for those of you that hear what the critics say ("hyrbid theory 2" et al). Its not magically different but its freakin excellent, and better than hybrid theory for the most part. :D
What do you guys think?

I found it to be rather lacking. It was disappointing actually.
Hybrid Theory was far better.

It's 36 minutes ONLY, what do you expect.
At least when you get a Tool or NIN album, you know it will be 70 minutes.

Sounds like this may be one I *ahem* borrow from a friend.
I just burned 30 bucks on the Ramones Tribute CD (excellent btw) and the new Ani DiFranco CD (also excellent) so I have no cash left.
the more I listen to it... the better it sounds...
I liked some of the beats from the beginning... yah... some of the songs sound a bit limp... but after a few listenings it sounds pretty good..
matter of fact... hybrid theory was a FAB album :)
anything they release has a tall order to match that album... but I think the sophomore effort deserves a few listens... I gave it a second chance and it sounds sweet..

AMEN! Its growing on me like fungus on a homeless guy.

Length doesn't make for a good album, hybrid was a mere 38 mins..

wow, how much did you pay for it? If it doesn't hold over for an hour, I don't touch it:D
My local Circuit City had it out last night and on sale ($10 US). I'm more than happy at that price.

The first one was alright if that's the kind of thing that you're into, but I'm not really. I listened to the second one for the hell of it, knowing that I could spare 36 minutes whilst I browsed the forums, and I must say that it is terrible crap that was put out to sell copies and nothing more.

Yes but when music is good, you always want more. Some of my favorites, Dream Theater's Scenes From A Memory to American Head Charge's War Of Art all run well over an hour of diverse tracks that I love. When its all over too fast and you have to listen to the same stuff over and over, it gets very dull. But most LP sounds the same anyway so it might as well be 1 track long.

My local Circuit City had the complete album with DVD and extras for only $15. So I picked it up last night. I like Hybrid Theory a lot, and I have to say I like this album as well.
I'm disappointed that it's the same old lyrics (which my friends and I have dubbed 'post-teen teen angst'). Taking the lyrics out, though, I find the music and beats to be quite good. The high points aren't as high as those in Hybrid Theory, but the lows aren't as low as on HT. There's no song on Meteora I truly dislike unlike "By Myself" on Hybrid Theory.
The thing I really like about Meteora (and Linkin Park in general) is that, although they have a pretty hard style of music and "dark" lyrics, they don't swear. I'll continue to respect the band and buy their music if they keep it up. It's nice not to have to listen to an f-bomb in every other word. :)
So overall, I'd give LPs latest effort a solid 'B'.

Just bought it today, and I really liked it. The only thing I wish was different is that I wish it was longer. I give it a solid A-

NIN's The Fragile was 100 minutes long (2 CDs). THAT was an ALBUM... IMO definitely the best album of the past ten years. Heh. Yeah, I know a lot of you will say, "OMGWTF TOOL!" and meh, Tool has high points, but then it's kinda bleh. And a lot of it follows exactly the same musical pattern, which can get old. So, nah to Tool.
And Hybrid Theory sucked as well. Sure, it was good the first time you heard it, and then you heard it again and again and again and there was nothing else there. With good music, you'll notice nuances and layers that go much deeper than the drums.
Meh, I'm ranting.
Here's my guide on how to sell music:
1) rock out to get the guys to like you
2) sing about emotional crap so girls like you(but rock out while you do it)
3) verse, chorus, verse, prechorus, chorus
4) ALWAYS have a rap guy in your band
5) ALWAYS have a screamer guy(see #1)
These are just some quick steps. There are always more.
And btw...could the rap guys lyrics be any more nonsensical? Does saying stuff in rap voice make it cooler no matter what?
And for all the linkin park fans out there, I'm sorry I offended, but I'm also sorry that you listen to them.
-Flecko
Linking what?
Is this a band or something? Or a new world trade centre?
