I thought MS was supposed to release the spring update today. More than the feature list, I am interested in seeing if they manage to ban modded 360s. Already a new hacked FW is out to counter some so called checks, but its still wait and watch.

The start of this week http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/news/2007/0408-im.htm
"Beginning the week of May 7, 2007, the Xbox 360 Spring Update"

IMO I don't care what happens to hacked 360s, mine isn't hacked so I have nothing to worry about.

They call it "Beginning the week of May 7, 2007" because they can call Monday-Wednesday "the beginning of the week" and don't have to specify a specific date

Hope it comes soon though

this MSN thing.

You make it sound as though msn messaging is new or something.

On the 360 without Media Center, it is.

Been using MSN on the PC since it first came about, be ace being able to chill on the sofa typing to folks along with a game of poker.

Just got mine an hour or so again.

New blade for marketplace, name of game where it used to say "Play Game" at the bottom, and achievements have brief desription when you get them... Nothing special really though I'm sure there's some optimizations.

The MSN feature is pretty cool, just need that USB Wireless keyboard to arrive and will be set. Just hope I dont get constantly annoyed while trying to game.

I'm getting it right now...so...HD DVD volume issues fixed? And what about DTS decoding? :o

EDIT: I just saw at AVS that the HD DVD updates are coming later this week in a separate update...

The rumour information I have says that for the hd-dvd team to release the fix for their stuff, some additional work had to be done to the ?360 os?. Now that; that release has been done, the hd-dvd update should be on the way soonish. Which will be really nice as the speaking volume in movies suck when I play it on my 6.1 system.

Yeah...there's some bug where the "nighttime" mode or whatever is always on with no ability to turn it off. Fixing that and adding DTS decoding would make me incredibly happy.

I really like that it tells you what game is currently in the drive. It's such a small thing, but it makes such a big difference.

Its such an obvious thing as well though. I'm not going to bash MS for adding a feature but it was something I thought should have been there as soon as the update appeared to let you boot to the dashboard.

I don't know whether users made MS aware of this or they just sorted it out on their own, but at least they are doing things to improve the system.

Oh, I totally agree it should've been there from the start...it's kind of a common sense sort of thing, but on the flip side, I could see them thinking, "Why waste time on that when the player is physically putting the disc of the game in?"

Regardless, it's there and I like it. :D

I was checking out to see if the ability to play MPEG4 video was possible with this update and it is! I put a video file I created with Nero Recode on a USB flash drive and it showed up on the 360 menu. When I attempted to play the file I was prompted that an additional update was needed (2.86mb). Once the update was complete the file played fine. Unfortunately XVID files still do not work. :(

Update: Check THIS (http://blogs.msdn.com/xboxteam/archive/2007/05/09/spring-07-video-playback-faq.aspx) link for details on the added video codec support
