Come on convince me why i should buy the Geforce FX, as i currentley found an ATI 9800 PRO for pre-order for the same price. Nightmare! Just when i thought id decided!!

I don't want this to turn into an ATI v Nvidia thing incidentally, but id like some for and against's - do you really think Nvidia will pull something out of their driver hat's to even things up, especially with IQ? Come on im trying really hard here Nvidia to talk myself into getting an NV30 - give me something ! anything !

Such a method to convince is not possible. If the FX was significantly cheaper, that would be one thing, but there is zero reason (not one) why you shouldn't buy the 9800 Pro.

Well its either....

PNY Verto Geforce FX 5800 Ultra 128MB for 357

or....

VisionTek XTASY 9800 PRO 128MB for $399
(Shipping on the 31st May 2003)
(and yes its a US site but they ship to europe)

Ill add to the equasion, im buying this card for 'future' games. Not the games out now (as such). I have Doom3 in mind.

I gotta agree with saturn on this one. There is no reason to buy a FX over the 9800Pro, not one.

Intersting, considering the 9800's lead in most things. Im still not 100% on either - lucky i have a few days before either card becomes avaiable i guess.

Ummm if its preorder why not just wait till you can actually order it? Or is that to crazy of an idea.

Crazy idea - because if i do that they will most likley have none left by the time i can actually buy them. Stocks of the FX especially are severely limited, and i can only imagine the 9800 will be just as saught after.

*edit* Where are all the PRO-NVIDIA (ok nvidiots ;)) when you need some? lol j/k nah but as i said, i shall just have to keep looking. I guess eitherway i go i wont be disapointed so.

Using Doom Alpha is plain stupid, on the part of Digit Life. It projects absolutely flawed conclusions, for very obvious reasons.

When it's finally gone Gold...then Doom can/should be used. Until then, it's terrible journalism to even think of using it as a benchmark.

But at the moment its the closest thing we have to seeing how both cards perform in the game. :/

Not really. The alpha is highly unoptimized, and the FX and R3xx weren't using the same code path as they are in the current build. The performance in the alpha will likely be nothing like in the actual game.

That's debatable - but like i said its all we have lol.

If I were you I'd vote niether. Get a TNT2! Thier practically free!

Kidding. Go 9800 Pro. I went G4Ti4200 to 9700 Pro and I don't regret it for a second.

We also have John Carmack's comments on Doom III performance with the 9700 Pro and GeForce FX which, although they don't give any solid numbers, can give you a reasonable idea of what to expect.

Decided anyhow now. Going to go with ATi. :) Sorry Nvidia :(
