View Full Version : failsafe mode fails me
Hello complete linux/unix newbie( bit of a windows man!! I have installed solaris10 ( we use it at work so trying to get a head start ) but I messed up on the graphics and now I get a flashing grey screen when trying to boot into the Gui. I can boot into the failsafe mode but I am a command line novice and I can't get the Nvidia driver to load from USB drive or CD. Can anyone give me easy to follow step by step instructions as I have stooped to the level of typing swear words at the command line now lol. Any help on the NIC would be appreciated too. Motherboard is ASUS striker extreme and eVga 8800GTX VGA 30" 3007WFP DELL monitor. Thanks

I don't believe Solaris will mount automatically in Fail Safe Mode. You have to mount it manually. The CD will probably be easier. The command will look something like this:
# mount -F hsfs -o ro /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s2 /mnt
Basically what that says is to mount the "high sierra file system" "read only" "device c1t0d0s2" on /mnt of your hard disk.
Please note, that the device c1t0d0s2 may be different on your computer. To find the device of the cdrom on your system just issue the command /usr/bin/rmformat. Be sure not to use the "r" preceding "dsk". The mount command will not work on a "raw" disk (rdsk).
