Berlin, 15. May 2007 - With its release of the new O&O Defrag 10, the Berlin-based O&O Software is reissuing its leading solution for the defragmenation of PCs and servers with full support for all current Windows operating systems, including Vista in 32- and 64-Bit formats. The new and exclusive Auto defrag functionality that adjusts its resource usage to a user's needs, represents a milestone in the development of defragmenation software. For the first time ever, this functionality allows users to remedy performance slowdowns associated with disk fragmentation permenantly and without any need for user interaction.

O&O Defrag is the only product offering five defragmentation methods designed for a variety of different workstation or server demands. These differing defragmenation stategies differ in speed, required system resources and degree of optimization, enabling the selection of the right method for the right scenario. In O&O Defrag 10 it is now even possible to leave the selection of the best defragmenation strategy up to the O&O Defrag's auto-defragmentation function.

The integrated OneButtonDefrag Wizard in O&O Defrag 10 provides users with support in activating automatic defragmentation by determining a computer's use patterns through a user questionnaire. Whether a computer is use mainly at work or for gaming, O&O Defrag 10 will automatically choose individual defragmentation strategies and combinations for optimal results. In addition, its high-power algorithms are able to adjust themselves over time to continually work against performance losses due to disk defragmentation. Once OneButtonDefrag is activated, O&O Defrag begins to monitor the fragmentation of a computer's drives, stepping in when needed.

This Wizard is not just available to private users, but can also be used by corporate Administrators to determine differing defragmentation strategies for Servers. Among other options, special strategies are available for file and database servers for regularly optimizing server storage volumes on-the-fly in the background. Additionally, the integrated O&O ActivityGuard Pro constantly monitors and controls the resource consumption of O&O Defrag, making sure that users do not sense any resource limitations on their PCs while O&O Defrag is working. Naturally, it is still possible in O&O Defrag 10 to define custom defragmentation strategies using the built-in job scheduling funtion.

The new Version 10 also includes a ScreenSaver Mode, which addtionally sports its own O&O Defrag ScreenSaver, making use of beautiful 3-D animation that visualizes the Defragmentation process. Users need only to activate this function in O&O Defrag and a defragmentation will start whenever the computer goes to ScreenSaver.

One-of-a-kind and new is the fact that O&O Defrag's optimization will start wherever it last left off, eliminating redundant operations. A special proof algorithm even will even check to make sure that changes to data in already optimized areas of the disk are taken into account, ensuring that a computer's optimization is always current.

O&O Defrag 10 boasts a completely overhauled user-interface that has made the software more usable than ever. Menu font size is now adjustable for increased ledigibility among users with visual impairments. Moreover, the brand-new Ribbon Bar can now be customized to include only desired features. The checking of O&O Defrag's status is now possible by way of an easy-to-use Task Tray control interface. To start, pause or stop a defragmentation, the launching of the main user-interface is no longer necessary, adding ease of use to an already user-friendly product.

The Server Edition of O&O Defrag 10 is packaged with the O&O Enterprise Management Console that, aside from allowing the easy distribution of the software onto a network, also includes the O&O TrueRemoteControl remote management function. The automatic distribution of installation packets and group policies are also possible.

How does this compare to Disk Keeper 2007? That's what I'm currently using.

I always found perfectdisk to be the best one out there.
Ive tried em all and perfectdisk made a 10 times better job than any of them.

but plz dont use disk keeper its just crap..

I would recommend to use prefectdisk but if you dont want to then use any other but not disk keeper!

IMO the better ones will consume less memory while it is doing nothing at all. How much memory does O&O use while its idle?

How does this compares to Diskeeper? As far as visual design goes... O&O wins, and by far.

I've been using contig.exe and powerdefragmenter GUI.

What do you guys think of these? They seem to be pretty well liked. And they're free. :)

They do, very fast as always. I've just never seen a professional comparison between this and any others, so i was fishing around for some educated user input.

btw, sorry if this was a thread hijack..didn't mean it to be...:o

Since the ext2/ext3 filesystems manage fragmentation to the point that there is no need to defragment, and there are ext2/ext3 drivers for Windows, I wonder if there is any benefit to creating a "boot" partition to house the OS and using a separate ext3 volume for general use.

I'd be curious to see the benchmarks of a ext3 versus ntfs filesystem with the ext3 drivers for Win32.

The driver manages the ntfs file system for general use including fragmentation?

Sorry if I'm being dense, I just didn't know there was such a thing.

Just saw, this would only work on 32bit...
