Wait.. am I really seeing a 5 SLOT cooling design?! lol

Its kind of hard to tell in the video, but this sounds pretty loud? Unless thats someone cleaning and vacuuming the room???

I have the ThermalRight HR-03 PLUS with a Zalman ZM-F2 92mm Silent fan(2800RPM) and AS5 thermal compound, my card runs idle under vista at 51c(used to idle at 48c under XP) ive never seen it pass 62c max load(was 59c max load under XP)while ive had this cooler on!(thats with my overclocks, check the sig)

wow, that takes a lot of slots. I wonder if I could fit something like that on my mobo, being able to use the soundcard aswell.

I could 'sacrifice' 4 slots for the video card, but x-fi gotta be on the 5th then. Does this take 4 or 5 slots? (not to clear from the pic)

It's 4 slots.

you should put one of these (http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/de12tfexhisp.html) blowing on it.
220CFM FTW

If space is an issue, I wonder what a 80x15 fan would do inbetween the card and HS? Should work OK, won't move as much air as a good 92mm though.

I am thinking about trying the AS5 trick first to see how much of improvement I can get before I drop $50 on this one. I have put the stock fan at about 85% and can just barely hear it over my case fans. That setting and the AS5 might get me where I want to be. My room is getting warmer and that card might just pop one of these days.

Looks like you can also turn the heatpipes around and mount the heatsink on the back of the card effectively making the GTX a single slot card!:) That might actually work better with the heatpipes too
Nice results tho, maybe I'll take the plunge

Yeah that is possible, its for SLI, i prefer to have mine the other way though, just so the fan is blowing alittle cool air onto the underside components!

I love mine. Depending on ambient room temp I am 45-47C idle and 55-57C load. I've got a 92mm Panaflo H1A fan on it set to medium when I game. I also use ATi Tool to OC. If I use a profile that reduces my 2d core clock to 300 I can idle anywhere from 41C to 44C, again, it depends on the room temp. Spring and fall = the lower values and summer = the higher. I do use AC and keep my house around 75F in the summer and 70F in the winter, give or take a few degrees.

I wasn't concerned about blocked slots because I stopped using a sound card after I installed Vista and use the MS HDA driver instead. I could use my sound card if I wished though, the last slot on my mobo is open and I preferred to give my card even more breathing room.

Too loud for me... and power hungry also!

Specifications: 120x120x38mm, 220.01 CFM @ 4600 RPM, 65.0 dBA, 29.40 watts, 2.45 amps, Maximum Air Pressure 26.44 mm HO, 12v DC, 3 or 3+4 pin Molex header connector(s).

Thanks anyway for advice but I'm happy with this Panaflo =]

I'm considering getting one of these since my 8800 idles at 65C. I currently have a Vantec Tornado 92mm that I'm not using and was considering pairing it with this heatsink, but I'm not sure I'll be able to use my X-Fi in the fifth slot if I do so. The Tornado is a bit thicker than a standard fan so it seems as if it might not fit. Anyone know if it will work?

I'm also planning on hooking up the Tornado to a 5v lead since it's deathly loud at full 12v.

Also, what paste/adhesive is recommended for the HR-03 ram sinks? I want to be able to RMA my card if necessary, so I don't want anything permanent.

I also have a Vantec Tornado 92mm that i dont use because its way to loud! ... i have a Zalman ZM-F2 92mm Silent fan on mine, i have tried the Vantec Tornado 92mm on the heatsink and it fits fine(never tried it with a 5v lead though), im using Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound ..... its great stuff.

My max load temp is the same as your idle temp with this cooler on(thats with my overclocks)

I bought mine about 2 months ago now when it first came out. It works extremely well, but it is huge. While not a problem for me, I can see it being a problem if you need more slots.

You also used AS5 to adhere the ramsinks to the chips, or are you using something else for that? It is fairly sticky so it seems like it could work but it also seems like they could easily get bumped right off.

Sounds like I'm better off getting a new 92mm fan. Bleh, just didn't want to have to invest more into this cooling solution than necessary.
