When I installed the latest nForce drivers for my ASUS A7N8X, the program asked if I wanted to install the nVidia IDE driver. I declined the offer. Does anyone know if those IDE drivers can noticeably improve performance?

Early nForce2 IDE drivers used to cause all kinds of problems for people. I have them installed on my new machine, and they seem to be all right. I only have my Lite-On and Pioneer CD burners on my standard IDE channels (my hard drives run on my SATA controller). My optical drives show up as SCSI devices, but they seem to be operating in their proper Ultra DMA modes. I'll try burning a CD sometime in the near future to see if I have problems.
I heard they have a problem with WinXP that it uses to much CPU so you have to download the fix from the MS Windows update site.

that's some info for ya
No, they currently are IMO more trouble than they're worth, but according to that they should be fixed up soon.
I concur with SavagePaladin. I had setup a nforce solution for a client and didn't bother with nvidia's ide driver from other nforce owner's postings.
We had XP SP1 installed and the system is running fine without it. Hardware 8 meg cache on the HD does wonders already.
