Hey all, I did some googling and this system process called ccApp.exe is used by Norton Internet Security. (my version is 2007) It seems to be maxing out one of my QX6700's cores. (just checked using NVMonitor and Task Manager) Games still run smoothly and other apps as well. Just wondering if this is normal behavior. I mean if i had a single core proc I'd be kinda pissed. Anyone have any knowledge or advice about this? Much appreciated- Chris

Well there's your problem!

Seriously, NIS is a piece of crap if there ever was one. Uninstall it, run NoNav, then use every "Symantec Uninstall tool" google will give you. Buy a copy of NOD32 or Kap or if you're cheap use ClamWin or FreeAVG. Komodo is one hell of a free firewall.

Norton was good many moons ago before they started adding bulk to the software and caused the updates to be 27MB if you didn't update regularly. I dropped it 5 years ago like it was a bad habit.

And yea, I'm cheap. I use FreeAVG. Love it to bits.

AVG was nice, but it doesn't like 64bit Vista (i.e. you have to pay). So I'm using Avast... Seems pretty good so far.

Avast is a nice and solid AV product. That and Eset NOD32 are my personal favorites. Both can be configured for silent operation, which is great, because I really despise obtrusive products like Symantec/Norton makes.

I agree with the above. I despise NIS. I found high cpu usage, iffy updates..as in they would break the installed base...having to manually delete files in order to update other files

Very not worth it.

Ok guys I'll take your advice, i will uninstall NIS07 and im going to purchase the AVG Internet Security Suite (im not cheap heh). Any good words for the AVG Suite?

edit: ok uninstalled Nis07, AVG suite installed in under two minutes! it seems incredibly light-weight. did i have to do anything special for the uninstallation of Nis07? I just used the control panel uninstall.

Sorry if I missed where you posted your OS, if it's XP I had zero problems with zonealarm antivirus with included firewall.

On Vista 64bit I'm using the built in firewall and avast antivirus.

There's not a ton of options atm for vista 64, so AI'm sure something better will come along.

Get kaspersky. It's free after rebate at staples right now. It has the highest detection rates and uses a very small cpu/memory footprint.
