Well, my trusty year old 7900 GT died a few days ago. Not to worry though, I packed it up and sent it off to EVGA as a RMA. Not only were they great to deal with, they sent me a 8600 GTS as a replacement. Friggen SWEET!!!

So many times all we hear about is bad customer experiences that I felt I just had to compliment EVGA on their totally professional and kick ass customer service.

They have another customer for life as I won't buy a video card from anyone else.

Great job EVGA!!!!!

Honestly, I'd be a little upset. The 8600GTS tanks when any kind of AA/AF is applied. SO much so, that a 7900GT outperforms it at 1600x1200 with 4xAA

They RMAd three of my motherboards. :)

One of them I think I destroyed. :p The other two were the AR/TR versions.

You got a $200 video card replacement that's DX10 compatible.

I'd say you got a pretty sweet deal there. ;)

That's awesome man! An 8xx series card for a 7xx series is kickass! Evga rocks!

8600GTS sucks. I would be very disappointed if they sent me that. The 7900GT was a high end card when released. I would expect something like an 8800 gts 320mb in return.

Well... I wouldn't be so quick to say that. With low AA it should perform just fine at higher resolutions. But we don't know what the OP games at (resolution wise) nor what AA he intends to run.

Either way, I think it was a good deal. The 320MB GTS is far more of a card than the 7900GT was. Where as the 8600GTS is a bit less of a card than the 7900GT was (save for DX10 support). There really isn't much of a middle ground, nor much of a direct comparison for a card. As such, from a business perspective, eVGA didn't shoot themselves in the foot by giving away a far better card and they didn't screw him over either.

I'd say they did the right thing.

Well said, Redeemed.

Another thing, GeForce 8's image quality is lightyears ahead of any 7 series card. Especially AA/AF, and even perhaps PureVideo capabilities.

I know that the 7900GT and the 8600 GTS are pretty close in performance with the 7900GT better in some cases. To be honest I'm more happy about the DX10 support and the better IQ. At 1280x1024 it should be just fine.
(This is for my back-up PC anyway since I already bought a 8800GTS for my main rig :) )

The nicest part of all was the no hassle return process. Kudos to EVGA for some great customer service.

Dx10 support on any of the current gen cards is pretty much for demo purposes anyway, besides, poor DX10 support is better than NO DX10 support.

Agreed,he could just as easily have gotten a 7600gt which doesnt have DX10 support. :)

Oh crap... I wish I bought eVGA instead of Gainward, thety pretty much failed me and my retailer by simply not responding... Well screw them, my next card = eVGA.

I hate to say this too but I would be real dissappointed if they sent me a 8600GTS to replace my 7900GT ,in ever benchmarkmark I see the 7900GT comes out on top even when useing FSAA and Ansio.

I'm just going to chime in here. If I bought a 7900GT, and it died, and the warranty said it was covered for life, I'd be pissed as hell if an inferior card was given to me.

Now, we can debate which is superior, due to the 8600GTS having better features and better IQ, but the 7900GT has better speed. Ask yourself, does the loss of speed matter? If it doesn't matter, be thankful for the arguable upgrade, and move on your way.

But if the loss of speed bothers you, complain. You bought a 7900GT, and I've seen some benchmarks that show the 8600GTS getting beaten by a 7600GT (yes, seventy-SIX).

EVGA is a company with a stellar support record. Like any other company, they will make mistakes. However, I would be slightly disappointed with this.

I would like to see some of these benchmarks comparing the 8600GTS with the 7900GT that some are mentioning.

Our own testing shows the 8600GTS 256MB is almost comparable to the 7950GT 512MB.

I totally agree with this. At the end of the day the op is happy with the card they sent him.

Well, you can at least watch 1080p movies on your second rig now! :) It even outperforms the top g80s in that department! And there's no question about the 7900gt being faster, but as he already has an 8800gts in his other rig, I don't think it matters too much. (nana2) Btw. how's the EVGA support in Europe and do we also have the step-up program here?

It is indeed very nice of them. I understand that the performance is less than that of a 7900 gt, but still you get some nice newer things in return.

The step up program exists in Europe. You have to send your card off to Germany though.

Yeah, after they replaced my board, I was so impressed with their service that I decided then and there they would be the only cards I buy from now on.
