Are we heading into a new era or what, why are memory prices falling like crazy? Back in March, I bough a OCZ 2GB kit for almost $200. Now, such kit cost less than a hundred dollars after rebate. It's crazy. Can't imagine it. DDR3 plays a part, I bet.:headexplode:

Yeah I am so disappointed on this end as well, I got value 2x1Gb of DDR2-667 for 160CND back in Feburary. Now I can get 2x1Gb of Value DDR2-800 for 80 CND. :banghead:

Prices are so unpredictable lately. Originally, I was just going to get some cheapees and wait for prices to fall but decided against my instinct, now I regretted. I could have saved a hundred dollars easy if I waited until now. Bad me. Should've been a little smarter.

Yeah I thought this today as well. A month ago I bought 2 2x1GB kits of Mushkin PC2-8500 for $250 a piece. This was after $180 off regular price (each). The same kits are now going for $160 a piece. Ridiculous.

I got my old 800mhz C4D modules for 260 back in September

They were the 1.1 version, with Micron chips.

I still payed the difference for the 1066mhz C5D modules when Corsair did their promotion thingey. :)

I almost want to build another machine just because RAM is so cheap. Sheesh. This is crazy awesome.

I recommend this kit instead if rebate isn't a hassle for you. They are almost the same price after the rebate. I bought this kit back in February, sold it with my Asus A8N-Premium and my A64 3200 to another user on this forum.

Is ddr3 significantly faster than ddr 2 then?So far, each DDR(N) -> DDR(N+1) results in:

-Lower Voltage
-Higher Frequencies
-Higher latency

The DDR2->DDR3 change will also show an increase in bus bandwidth and an Async reset option.

Currently, the fastest rating for the DDR3 specification is PC3-12800 (DDR1600).

Memory prices are usually dictated by the Asian market. For years now it's like a roller coaster ride up one day down the next.

IT makes me sick to know I spent over $700 on two sets of PC2 8500C5 Dominator ram and now them two sets would just cost $280 with rebates. But that the way it goes ,buy one day and a month later it will be cheaper but Damm 60% cheaper.

IMO, its going to be like DDR2 again.. Initially, DDR3 is going to cost more, and be mainly used by big system builders.

Once production becomes more widespread, and adoption goes up, DDR3 will get cheaper and faster, and eventually everyone will be using it.

why? you can update your system for 86 euros. 4gb of ram... i think it's a good deal.

i would buy another 2gb for $100.. but as i said $260 is too much :thumbdwn: Corsair screw you! lower the price!

Smart man ;) I waited also. And with ddr3 and new cpu/chipsets just around the corner, the prices are likely to drop even more.

By the time we actually need a new rig, we should see one hell of a performance improvement for a very affordable price.
