Will the 360 "upconvert" games? I'm curious about whether or not games will be in a 4:3 letterboxed format or if it will allow games to be played at 1280x720 or 1920x1080.

I'm mostly concerned about Halo and Halo 2. I'd really love to pick them up, play through and get all up to speed on the story before Halo 3 comes out in September.

It depends on the game. I'm pretty sure that Halo 1 & 2 are both rendered to 720p, with AA and widescreen and all that niceness. The first thing I did when I got my 360 was pick up Halo 1 & 2 and play through them, and they looked great. Other games, like Panzer Dragoon Orta which I picked up as soon as they added BC for it, look pretty bad. 4:3, renders to 480i.

Boo. :(

I have Aliens vs. Predator Extinction for Xbox so I'll assume that's going to look like ass.

But if that is indeed true about Halo and Halo 2, I'm very happy and definitely going to pick them both up. :D

Halo and Halo 2 only upconvert to widescreen. If you try to upconvert it to fullscreen then you'll be forced to have it stretched and ugly. Can't believe they havn't released a fix for it yet...

Halo 1&2 look and play really nicely, I bought both when I picked up my 360. Looked and played fine in sdtv, and look even better now on my hdtv. The thing about 360 backward compatibility is that not all games are supported and you need to check the list first.

How is the wifi doing for you?

Actually, I haven't hooked it up yet. It's at my parents' house and I'll be moving back in there tomorrow or Saturday for the summer/until I find a new job. I'll let you know in a couple days. :)

Honestly, I use my 36" Sony XS955 tube for Xbox 1. 36" 4:3 at 4 foot range is really nice for Xbox 1. I prefer using an Xbox over a 360 for those games.

Yeah I was disappointed. I couldn't keep playing because it looks pretty horrible. :( Hopefully they'll fix it with next update.

They damn well better, even though my xbox is sitting right next to my x360.

PDO was one of the 5 best sexbox exclusives there ever was.

Sorry for the hijack, but my question is simple hence I don't see the need of opening a new thread... ULTIMATELY, if I haven't played Halo 1 at all, at either platforms, and I own a PC and a XBOX both, what it is the best version to get, PC or XBOX? Thanks.

The pc version has slightly better graphics, but the xbox version is true to form.

Hmm...I got Halo and Halo 2 today and am playing Halo right now...it's definitely still in a 4:3 ratio and I saw no option to change the resolution. :(

The original Halo is a 4:3 game. It also automatically upconverts to 720p on 360.

So it is being upconverted, it's just staying in 4:3? I guess I assumed 720p == widescreen. :o

Depends on what you mean by 'upconvert'. I believe it's still only rendered at 480p but with anti-aliasing applied. The reason it tends to look sharper on the 360 is that it's scaled up to 720p (or whatever resolution you have your 360 set to) using the 360's internal scaler rather than the TV's (which are often pretty crappy compared to that of the 360).
