I heard you can change out the PS3 console hard drive. I heard all it was is just a notebook hard drive and you inner change it out if you wanted to. I would love to put in an 80GB hard drive with faster RPM's and more cache. I think the PS3's hard drive is IDE based. Can te PS3 use SATA? and if so can it be stepped up to a bigger faster SATA Hard drive?

Okay, so what are my options? I want bigger and faster, Any suggestions on SATA hard drives? Raptors? or something fast?

Read the link, you want a SATA drive and a big cache, RPM doesn't seem to have much effect. Here's an example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148184

Choose your own capacity and manufacturer.

Solid State Drives could be interesting way to go, they have ridiculously low latency and should work like a charm on Ps3.
Some of the drives have very slow read/write speeds, but it still might be an interesting option.

After year or two these babies should be fastest and meanest Ps3 drives available. :D
