I think that is a pretty damn large leap for Linux.

It's just a shame that 99% of people I know don't have a clue wtf linux is. :)

Thats what I was thinking. It will be a huge leap for linux but

A) A lot of people who use a computer (Mainly older people) have enough troubles trying to use windows.

B) Will it be widely accepted?

The most interesting part of this whole thing is that Dell is going to be selling these machines in Wal-Mart also.

Ya, I saw that story on the news today. They are going to start selling two models of their laptops at wal mart.

It's interesting, we'll see how it goes.

Ubuntu just got it's foot in the "mainstream" door. People are going to like it, buy it, and the licensing agreements will start flowing.

6 months from now all the belly aching about windows??? It's going to be directed at Ubuntu for selling out lol.

If Dell are unlucky this will be ordered by n00bs who are gonna get massively confused and overload their support dept hehe.

Honestly, I think this is a step backwards for Linux. If by chance this OS does catch on, Linux will lose its whole reason for being useful. Its security.

The ONLY reason Linux and Mac are "more secure" is because less people use them. Noone cares to attack them. On top of that, Linux users are usually "above average" computer users. Imagine Mom and Pop using Linux? Or your 11 year old sister? These are the users who give Windows a bad rap security wise. They do stupid things to their computers and blame it on the OS.

I'm predicting two things are going to happen.

1. People will realize how many security holes this home based Linux OS really has.

2. Linux will cost more to have than Windows.

That's why they make a warning:

Not sure Open Source is for You?

The main thing to note is that when you choose open source you don’t get a Windows® operating system. If you’re here by mistake and you are looking for a Dell PC with Windows, please use the following link.

:D

Anyway I hope dell bring Ubuntu computers to Europe ...

Its going to be a nightmare for the consumer when they go and buy those laptops then run over and to the walmart software rack and buy that copy of Deer Hunter 2007 and bring it all home and find out that it doesn't work.

I'd rather be known here as the person that **** with people than to come here and be the village idiot.
