Actually, it's almost a 2mb bitmap! :p
Only because jpg compression kills quality. :afro:

ever heard of PNG?
Nice file sizes, no loss of quality. I learned that from NvNews :D

The graphics rock, and I have only played MP so far. It is not running as fast as the demo did, and I am trying to figure out why.
Methinx it is the stupid DX9a I installed yesterday.

well once i finish UNREAL 2, im up to mission/level 18 so far, im gonna start playing some heavy duty VIETCONG multiplayer....hope it is as good as the demo. by the way i dont know if you played UNREAL 2 or not, but it is a must buy! check www.gogamer.com for best price's. it is the most "intense" game ive played in awhile with the graphic's/storyline & action to go with all the excitment.....now i know why it took so long for them to make and release unreal 2...it was worth the wait. have a good day!

I *cough* aquired Unreal 2 and I found it to be too cheezy and gets boring fast, not unlike UT2K3. I never bothered to play it much.
As for VC, the MP is amazing. The new maps make your jaw drop when you crank on the AA and aniso.
*NOTE* TO ANYONE HAVING TERRIBLE FRAMERATE PROBLEMS WITH THE RETAIL VERSION OF VIETCONG, GET THE NOCD CRACK. IT FIXES ALL FRAMERATE PROBLEMS. I CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT IT IS SAFEDISK SCREWING UP.....AGAIN.
I tried everything to fix the framerate prob I was getting. I got ~30fps at any resolution and with or without AA and Aniso. The demo would give me 55-60fps with 4xAA and 16xAniso.
I tried the nocd crack and it went from ~30fps to 60fps at 1280x1024x32 with all settings maxed and 4xAA and 16xAniso. :afro:

Any hints for doing well in MP. I can unload on somebody at fairly close range while crouched or lying down, but then proceed to be killed with 2-3 shots from the person I unloaded on. :( What am I doing wrong? Maybe I just need more practice.
BTW, I am not that impressed by the graphics. Especially some of the terrain textures.....they look a lot like the really bright textures in Serious Sam.
I'll try the No CD crack. In fact, the low FPS might be the source of my poor aiming accuracy problems.

Just tried the no CD crack. It makes a HUGE difference. My accuracy improved dramatically now that the game plays more smoothly. Also, I realized I was using 16-bit textures instead of the 32-bit ones, and I had the game set to storing the textures in video memory instead of system memory. The manual states that video cards with more than 32 MB of memory should use the system memory setting. This seems counter intuitive to me, but I think that might be why the textures don't look that good.

Huh? That is wrong on soo many levels. Are you sure it said that, or did you read it wrong? If it does, then I can only assume it was written by a complete idiot.
I dont even think it's possible to texture from system ram anymore. The last card that did that was the intel i740 IIRC. (possibly the i8??)
IF a texture wont fit in VRAM it will be held in system ram automatically by GL. (IIRC D3D apps need to hold their own copy if it gets flushed from vram)
It still gets paged back into VRAM before textue sampling occurs tho.

Yea, that's what it says. Basically the manual states to store the textures in video memory if you have a graphics card with 32 MB or less of video RAM. I originally set it to storing textures in video memory because I thought that would be the correct setting for my 9700 Pro. However, I decided to read the manual, and I had to do a double take when I read what it said. Regardless of the setting, performance remains the same with my 9700 Pro.
Edit: Here is exactly what it says in the manual:
Textures in system memory (DirectX texture manager)
The most common option. Use this option if your video card has 32Mb or more of RAM.
Fit textures in video memory (Ptero texture manager)
Use this option if your video card has less than 32Mb of RAM.
Note: Scaled textures appear blurred.

Basically, it removes the safedisc bit from the game's executable, and therefore doesn't periodically check for it. This is more commonly used for *ahem* illegitamately obtained copies of games but I can see how it would be beneficial. In fact the recent BF1942 patches have removed some of the safedisc checks to improve performance.
