Well I am going to pick up a laptop tomorrow that I will be using while I am out of town (1 month) and I wanted to load up some games on it. Any suggestions. Any and all sort of games.

Here is a link to the laptop: http://www.chemusa.com/chembook_8170.htm

P4 1.7GHz
256mb ram

I will do a clean reinstall with newest drivers for everything once I get it. It will be running Windows XP SP2.

On the list I already have HL2, but what other games are out there that you guys (and girls) would suggest for me. I am really up for any type of game.

Thanks,
Alex

Some oldies but goodies that will definitely run on that machine include the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Unreal Tournament 2004. There are plenty of good games out there that will run on that machine, just make sure to check the requirements before you purchase and install.

KOTOR and UT2004 on 16Mb M6 integrated video? :o

I guess they might work but I doubt UT2004 is playable...

I'd look at something more in the pre 2002 era.

Deus Ex, Half-Life and any of its mods (which covers a HUGE amount of gaming possibilities), Quake 3... really, any good games from before 2002 should work.

As far as HL2, it'll probably "work" too, but I don't know how well. It ran ok on a geforce 2 mx200 32mb at minimum settings at 800x600. You might have to do 640x480.

Grim Fandango, Monkey Island series, Quake 1/2/3, Baldurs Gate 1/2 Shadows of Amn (and expansion), Fallout, half-life, call of duty and unreal tournament are just a few good examples of lower end laptop games.

WTH? You want him to play Crysis on that laptop? Your CRAZY... :p

Seriously though, the above mentioned games would be good, along with a Rom Emulator (Play arcade/console games - but only as long as you own them! :o )

UT2004 will definitely work on that card. The game is so optimized when it comes to older cards that it's unreal, pardon the pun. I've played it before on a loaner laptop before with an older Intel integrated GPU, and it played fine at 800x600 with alot of details turned down though. KOTOR should work as well. Those other games you mentioned are excellent suggestions as well. I was just thinking of the newest games that that PC could run.

Well I am not sure about whether it can play it, I found out that ATI M6 is mobility 7000, it used DirectX 7.

I have the laptop now so some more info. The video card is a ATI Mobility Radeon. The native resolution is 1024X769. It has 256mb ram now, but I will put another 256in as soon as I get another. As is now Q3A runs perfectly fine on maxed out settings (no aa/af).

Keep the suggestions coming guys!

Thanks,
Alex

Yeah those should all be good.

I have to vote for Medal of Honor too. That was a great game back in the day.
