Fan controller polarity question

I have an akasa single fan speed controller but no power lead, so I used a Panaflo tail instead BUT .Which way round do I need the leads to be?
the pins are like this at the back of it
(B)(R)(Y)<--to fan (?)(?)<--to mobo power

Im hoping this is an answerable question as im unsure of the safety of reversing the polarity on a fan ,
the last time I messed around with fans the smoke they put in there came out.

Red should be your power and Black should be your ground and the yellow should be your wire that tells the speed of the fan

Im not really worried about the fan side of it, just the motherboard power leads. but yes thanks for pointing out my ignorance about fans.

Ignore the lack of a pwm ,thats just the other end of the panaflo tail.

I got a panaflo leafblower today so I want to know if this thing will work ,i have no test rig available
