Toshiba no longer exclusivly uses Intel cpu's to power it's laptopts, but has made a deal with AMD. Toshiba expects 20% of their laptops will get an AMD processor. Intel currently owns 80% of the cpu market, but since Dell and now Toshiba have made a deal with AMD, it seems AMD is working hard to keep up with it's big concurrent Intel. Some analists say that this will be the end of Intel's dominant position in the cpu market, but it's uncertain that this is true and only time will tell.

not really a rumor, because it's the odd of it being not true is like... 2% :/

I'd have to look it up,

Anyways this is good news for AMD, because Toshiba is one of the bigger laptop manufacturers

What?! I thought AMD was bankrupt and doomed, not picking up more major oem deals?! BLASPHEMY!

Weren't some of AMDs midrange chips deemed more power efficient than intels? I think I read that in Maximum PC...anyway it would make sense.

Anyway, hope it turns out to be somewhat lucrative for them.

Currently AMD dominates the low-end segment of the market. Think X2 3600. It over clocks almost equally as well as the Core2s, while costing 50% less. If AMD can do with the 3600 what Intel managed with the Pentium M's architecture, AMD might come out with thier own "conroe" to trump Intel's offerings at that time.

And this is great news for AMD indeed.

Yeah. I just noticed this at work when I was setting up a Toshiba with a Turion X2... I was like..... huh??? AMD? lol

So Dell and Toshiba are no longer exclusively Intel. That's real good news. Perhaps AMD has a fighting chance afterall. :)

*waits for Sony to jump the Intel ship* (lee63)

AMD Mobile processors aren't that great. Its kinda sad how we have Pentium Dual Cores in some of the laptops that are faster than the Turion X2's.

Show me a benchmark with performance per watt with the Pentium dual core system beating out a Turion X2 in a similar price range.
