View Full Version : Nforce 2 and crackling sound, Help changing IRQ's.
I was following a thread on another forum about fixing the crackling sound. They have said the audio sharing an IRQ with another device can cause this crackling. My nforce audio codec interface shares IRQ 20 with PCI to USB host controller. Now I have plenty of free IRQ (like 5 and 7) but in WinXP when I go to try to change the IRQ manually the option to "change settings" is grayed out. What do I need to chage or do so I can get the audio codec on a different IRQ? Thanks in advance for any help.

It's a pain...they'd be able to help you more than I would. I just wanted to pop in and say that the next driver set should fix it up.
 You may be right but I didnt really feel like registering and all that. I was counting on one of the mighty nvidiots to help me. Anyone? Anyone??

Go to your BIOS. Disable power management. Reinstall WinXP.
No, I'm not joking.
WOW. That is a tough one. Do I live with crackling sound or reinstall windows :s Thanks for the answer. I think I might have to wait for the update. I certainly could reinstall windows but there is no certainty that its an IRQ problem.
