Now I just need that new ATI Tool so I can feed more voltage to her.

Is there a new version out yet that supports the 2900XT?

If its not out yet I am sure that wizzard is probably at least working hard on getting it out.

He's working on it as we speak. The most recent one isn't compatible.

Some of the guys that I've seen get 950MHz and up are using a close-to-final version of it that isn't available to the general public yet.

I'm going to test Oblivion next on the good drivers and see how much it helps.

Overclocking has helped you some but without some major driver optimizations I don't think you would be able to completely catch a stock GTX in FEAR by solely relying on over clocking alone. And I dont mean for it to sound like thats what you are trying to do either so dont take what I am saying the wrong way.;)

Single 8800GTX stock speed. 4XAA+MS Transparency. 16XHQAF.
All In game settings AT MAX.

Im not totally sure whats up with (2900XT) Tombraider and FEAR but its either a driver issue or something hardware related or both. I know that you were really looking forward to completing Tombraider legends so I hope ATI can get the performance up to where it needs to be for some of these other games.

Rob, I saw your F.E.A.R. benchmarks the first 3 times that you posted them on this thread. That was the 4th. :)

It's clear there's a gap there, and I already admitted to it. But I also remember a time when I was getting in the 70s with a single overclocked 8800GTX on the FEAR bench test. It was on release drivers just like I'm running now w/ my XT.

I'm just happy with the way the performance is scaling on an overclock. The card still has some overhead with a voltage increase, and it's already sitting at a 25% performance jump from the current overclock. It'll probably scale the same when they optimize the drivers a little better if that's indeed what's holding it back. That's what's exciting.

Whether or not it is a hardware or software limitation causing the performance gap with these current games, it's not a major concern of mine. We'll find out soon enough. I bought my XT with the full realization that it probably wouldn't perform on par w/ the GTX in most current games. But aside from all of my issues w/ Nvidia, it seemed to me like the card had a lot of potential with next-gen titles which will utilize shaders more. All I really wanted in performance with games of this gen is playable framerates, and it's giving me that. FEAR averages 75fps, Oblivion runs very well on the alpha drivers, Rainbow Six plays just as well if not better than GTX did at launch, and Tomb Raider Legend is perfectly playable w/o the shadows on.

Anyway, I'm perfectly satisfied with the card so far, as I hope you are with your setup.

If AMD can sort out these driver woes they're having, they might have a winner in framebuffer heavy situations. I could easily see the 2900XT equaling or outperforming the GTX and Ultra when it comes to games that require a lot of framebuffer, and high bandwidth for that framebuffer. Then again, there are other factors about the XT's design that may just prevent the XT from ever performing like we hope it will...

I was afraid that you would take me the wrong way and I wont post anymore FEAR shots. I wasn't trying to rub anything in your face, it was just an observation and wasn't meant to be offending.

Good luck with your new rig and im glad you are having fun.

AA still isnt working with the newer drivers?

Here is a pic with 8XAA and 16XAF with all settings on high with the exception of shadows which only goes to medium.

This is with a single 8800GTX at stock speed. With these settings and a stock 8800GTX I average 60's FPS in the snow.

Neither driver works right w/ the AA. While ago it gave me the option to enable it, and then I went into my control panel to check something, went back into the game and it was disabled. Tried re-enabling it again and couldn't. Then went back into my control panel again and flipped everything back the way it was when it gave me the AA option and went back into the game. Tried enabling it and it wouldn't.

So, whatever. Or better yet, HRRRRRRRRRRRRR. :retard:

The funny thing is that we can both rip each other apart and its perfectly fine with either one of us as long as we are doing it to each other.

But god forbid that someone else out side the little circle screws with either one of us;)

You should get xion to tell you about the time some guy at a Bar/Club tried to start trouble with one of us because we couldn't understand Spanish. :box:

LOL. Yeah, what a dumbass.

I walked up to this urinal to take a piss at this club myself and two buddies were at one night, and this little gringo runt--probably 5'7" or so--looks over at me from the next stall and starts talking to me in drunken Spanish. I give him the wierd eye because, well, not only is it a little odd for the guy in the next stall to start up a conversation while checking me out (this wasn't a gay club, but I had the feeling this guy could've swung both ways) but for it to be in Spanish on top of it was yeah, a little strange. Especially w/ him being a gringo and a little liquored up.

Well, I give him the wierd eye to let him know I didn't understand a damn word he was saying to me and didn't like him sizing me up like a juicy sirloin, and he didn't like it much. I'm at the sink washing my hands and suddenly he yells at me "You know what, I could kick your a$$." I look back at him with a smile and a snort expecting him to be joking since the guy's about 50lbs lighter and 6 inches shorter than me, but to my surprise he was serious. "Yeah?" I say casually. "I'd like to see you try it, then." Then he tries to pick a fight with me right in the middle of the restroom. Rob just happened to walk in about 10 seconds later and gets right in the guy's face. I'm just trying to walk away, because I don't want to get into a fight at this damn place and get us all kicked out of the club.

Well, Rob gets in the guy's face and starts forcing him back against one of the stalls and is shouting at him and stuff. Before long, Rob's looking down at him (Rob is about 6'2" and so am I, but Rob is built like teh bigman because he's a gym rat) like Goliath must've been at David and laughing right in his face because the guy's shouting from umpa-lumpa eye level how he's gonna kick both our a$$es. So here we have Umpa-Lumpa weighing in at 155lbs in this corner and Rob weighing in at a solid 240 in the other along with myself, a modest 215, and Round 1 is about to begin. Rob can't do nothing but laugh hysterically (you don't know Rob, but his drunken hysterical outburst of laughter is a real thrill when you're slightly buzzed) in the guy's face and keep chest-bumping the guy back up against the stall.

Well, me knowing this was bordering right on a huge clusterphuck got a little worried that not only myself but my best friend was going to get kicked out of the place with me and possibly arrested. I didn't want that to happen, so I managed to get inbetween both of them and break it up before things got ugly. Umpa-Lumpa ran out of the restroom after both of us still hollering how he was gonna kick our a$$es while I grabbed Rob by the arm and drug him out behind me, him still laughing at the guy hysterically. Then I approached a bouncer and asked that he keep an eye on the guy.. that he was trouble.

But yeah, that was a fun night.

I am really dissapointed with the 2900XT,I thought it would do better,I think they should have just waited and made the 65nm part with 1gig of memory.I don't understand why they used such slow DDR3 memory, looks like they could have at least use the 1ns memory or the .8 like on the 8800ultra or when overclocking which effects the performance the most ,the Core overclock or the memory.I had'nt ran Fear since my 7900GTX SLI set up ,I was hearing that the 8800 played it slow,so I loaded it up on my SLI 8800GTS system and it blew away my 7900gtx setup. I ran it with everthing at max even had the soft shadows turned on, at 1680x1050 FSAA 4x Aniso 16x
Minimum 73fps
Average 123fps
Maximum 223fps

Well, after the huge rip I cause in Xion last night, you might want to run some stitches and bandages over to him. :naughty: :p

Well, all joking aside, it's cool you guys are tight like that. I've got a few buddies myself that I'd go to blows for. Me, I prefer not to fight if at all possible. Being a Christian I really do my best to live life as I feel Jesus would have lived it. But every once in a while- well, a guy just can't be afraid to bleed a little if you know what I mean. ;)

Talk about thread de-railment. Now we got Xion talking about your guys' days in the fight-club. :p Ya'll should have drug him out back, then kicked his @$$ for sh!ts and giggles. :firedevil :p
