Looks like the 1GB XTs are coming.

Expensive, close to the cheapest ultras/Most extreme o/c GTX versions.I really doubt it can compare favourably with those cards just with more ram/higher clocks if the GPU is identical to the normal 2900xt.At that price it just have to kick the standard GTX's ass,if not it would be madness to buy one eventhough it looks kinda cool:)

I'm so glad I don't work graveyard anymore. :D I probably would have been cool with it if I was making far more money (I was getting just barely more than minimum wage)- but oh well.

I actually work 12hr rotating shifts. 2 weeks of 6am-6pm and then 2 weeks of 6pm-6am. That kind of schedule is hard for anyone because you never really get completely adjusted.

The good thing about it though is the fact that you only end up working 15 days out of the month because of the long hrs. I working 2-3 days and then being rewarded with 3 days off.

I work for my county's 911 dispatch center, my goal is to eventually get on the other side of the fence and become a City Police Officer. I am very passionate when it comes to people, especially those in need of help.

But at the same time I will not hesitate popping a cap in that ass if you shoot at me:rw:

Its a job that requires both compassion and the ability to know when to defend yourself.

So, Rob, you're looking to become a boy-in-blue? Cool. It always pisses me off when people try to talk bad about the police officers. Makes you wonder of those people really think we'd be better off with no law enforcement officers. :retard:

Well, best of luck to ya'- dude. I'm sure you'll make it just fine. :D

A typical night sitting at city police dispatch consist of on average 2-3 armed robbery's, a dozen Domestic calls, Hit and runs, Traffic accidents, drive by shootings, etc.............all the stuff that never makes it to the evening news.

We really do not have enough city police officers to cover it all. The funny thing is the same people always screaming and complaining about officers are the same ones calling into 911 for us to come out and save their ass:rolleyes:

Without law enforcement the world would be pretty much F'd.

LOL. For those politically correct who *might* be getting offended, my grandfather was a cop. I'm thankful for every police officer out there on the streets (well, except the ones hiding in the bushes in small towns with their radar guns and ticketing for 5mph over.) I'm just giving my pal a hard time.

When Test Drive and Flight Sim X get to me early next week I'll bench them, too. For now, I've really benched all the games I have that would push this card any. I might go download that Dirt demo though and give it a whirl some time today.

Okay, I have some interesting benches coming up from both the DIRT demo and Oblivion on the new drivers (8.38) in comparison to the alphas that I've been using (8.37.4.2).

DIRT - Demo - XP
Catalyst 8.38 | 2900XT (stock) | Conroe 2.4GHz (stock)
1680x1050
16xAF(Driver), 4xAA MSAA(Game), All sliders High Settings

Overall impression of this game is that it looks gorgeous, first of all. Best looking racing game to date, and fantastic physics. The cars feel like they have weight and bounce around on the dirt tracks like the real thing. Although performance wasn't stellar for me, it was pretty consistent. There were no crazy framerate drops in any areas; the framerate was pretty fluid. But make no mistake about it, this game doesn't run that great on my 2900XT, but I've seen a lot of 8800GTX owners having problems as well. It seems to be CPU limited in a big way, so if you have the demo and an 8800GTX then please post your comparison screens at stock speeds on your Conroes so we can gauge performance differences between the cards (2900XT & 8800GTX/GTS)

I tried to take some shots in similar locales / tracks to what Blacklash posted before. I didn't try and capture the perfect framerate in any of these; I felt it was more important to give a fair representation of what to expect right now on this card as well as to show off the graphical prowess this game has, because it really does look incredible. Trees blow in the wind as you're driving past them, dirt flies up off the tires of other rally cars in a believable fashion, paint reflects off the cars in the sun. The game has great motion blur and depth of field effects. This is the Motor Storm killer for the PC, in my opinion. I hope that in the future better drivers from ATI / a dual-core patch from CM will bring forth a little better performance, because I'd like to pick up this game. It's perfectly playable right now, but it could definitely get better.

Alright, first shots are of the buggie track which is definitely more wide-open and takes a little more of a performance hit (around 3-5fps, on average) than the closed-in track at Germany.

Next up is the closed-in track at Germany. Little better performance here but still averages anywhere from 30-35 fps on an XT at stock speeds:

I'll be overclocking my card tomorrow and benching it again to see how well it scales in performance with higher speeds on the XT. I'm hoping that it scales well, because I could use it.

A brief note about Ultra Settings and this game on the XT. Needless to say, there is a major bug in the driver right now in regards to this. And that's really an understatement. The review sites out there who have benched this game and reported "9 FPS" or something of the like really shouldn't have even reported that as an accurate finding, because the game is not physically playing. That's right, the fact is that the game will not even play right now on Ultra Settings on the 8.38 Catalyst / 2900XT. It reports a 7-9FPS in FRAPS, but the game locks up as soon as you get on the starting line. Also, if you watch the counter at the upper left hand corner, it moves at about half the speed at which it should. 10 seconds takes 20 seconds to tick off, and so on. It's like the game is locked into some kind of a slowdown mode, and there is sound distortion in the background. It's pretty evident that it's just a bug in the driver and not due to some kind of hardware incapacity. Anyway, I thought that should be cleared up since I've seen a few talk about it. Expect that to be fixed in a later driver revision by ATI along with, hopefully, general performance improvements across the board.
