If you feel like it Xion, try all medium, all on, 4xAA|16xAF on the first track, aka the dirt buggy race. I tried "Dirt" like that, then with the same filtering and all max, either "high" or "ultra", whatever the top value was available to be set. Definitely try it overclocked too and see how much it helps. BTW, those shots look fine to me.

I'll try all medium settings w/ the same AF/AA applied and see how it runs. As I said at the end of my last post, Ultra settings won't even take. The game freezes up and won't play. Driver issue, I'm guessing.

DIRT - Demo - XP
Catalyst 8.38 | 2900XT (stock) | Conroe 2.4GHz (stock)
1680x1050
Medium Settings / All effects on
4x MSAA(Game), 16xAF(Driver)
Slight performance improvement over high settings, but not much. I'd say on average 5fps maybe. With this run, I tried to capture some replay shots of the foliage and multiple cars on screen at once to give an idea of the performance in the replays. It struggles more in the replays than it does when you're racing. You can tell by a few of these shots that I took in the same locales as the first batch that it's running a little faster, though. Notice in particular the close up of my buggy on the starting line.

Blacklash, what are you averaging w/ both your CPU and GTX at stock speeds and high settings enabled? I checked out the DIRT thread over in the gaming forum, and it looks like my performance is in the vicinity of most 8800GTX owners. Seems this game is really CPU limited and is restricted to one core in the demo.

I never did all high, I did all max, ie high+ultra and then tried all medium. I'll try all high under Vista later and report back. Your numbers look fine to me. Your all high numbers look like my ultra+high numbers on the buggy + dirt track @ stock. I didn't find CPU overclocking to help this game.

Im gonna try this demo out too and see if I can get SLI to scale with it.

Ok tried the Dirt Demo and after changing the games executible to read the same SLI profile that Tombraider Legends uses I was able to get SLI to scale!
The results-
1680X1050, all options on Ultra high with 4XAA and 16XAF. 45-55FPS:D :D
I will try to get some screens later. SLI FTW!!!

I am now enjoying this beautiful demo at a silky smooth 60fps:D The lowest fps is 50 only when the screen is full of cars slinging dirt all over the track.
All options are at high with the exception of the Vehicle Detail which I still have on Ultra.

Nice. :)
This is one of those cases we discussed where sheer graphics power can overcome lazy programming. Hopefully the final version will scale better on a single card.

Alright, I just benched it again with my overclock set to 875|975 on high settings in-game and got a lot better performance (about 10FPS increase on the buggy track!) Screens to follow in a bit. :)
This card continues to scale really well when overclocking.

DIRT - Demo - XP
1680x1050
Catalyst 8.38 | 2900XT (875 | 975) | Conroe @ 2.4GHz
16xAF, 4xMSAA(in-game), High Settings, all effects on
Whereas it averaged 25-30FPS while you were driving on stock clocks on the 2900XT, it now averages 35-40 at the exact same settings! That's almost a 10FPS difference! :) This makes it very playable since the game has motion blur which already smooths out the framerate somewhat. Getting over that 30FPS hump is key. Here are some shots:

Nice! with those same settings and a single 8800GTX at 600mhz core and 2000mhz mem I get roughly right around the same FPS.
I will be picking this one up, I am pleasantly surprised with how good it looks.

Coolest. :D
Yah, I'm already hooked on this game. Not only does it look great, but the rally cars feel real as if they actually have the weight of a hunk of metal racing down a dirt track instead of feeling light as a paperweight like most racers out there.
Awesome physics in this game.

Vista drivers don't seem to be too hot with this game. BTW flat stock under the above conditions = 26-43FPS.
EDIT: Track 3 = 37-49FPS as above and overclocked. Going back to do stock now. Stock as above = 32-43FPS for track 3. I'll post some shots from 3 later.

Stock as above = 32-43FPS. XP gives me about another 3-5FPS in this game. Also Track 3 All medium, 4xAA, 16xAF, 652|2054 = 45-63FPS.

All High looks to be the best balance. TBH though, I don't see big IQ differences between medium, high or ultra. Even with lower FPS this game runs very smooth.

All high with all effects on seems to be the sweet spot for me, too. Runs a consistent 35-40 on the buggy track with my overclock.
And I agree, the IQ difference is minimal.
Installing Condemned right now. Demo can be found here:

This is a game by Monolyth based on the F.E.A.R. engine for those who have never played it. Has some great graphics in it.

Xion you got Windows Vista? If so get the Call of Juarez DX10 demo, I'm kind of curious how it performs on the x2900. I can tell you this, it ran like crap on my 8800GTX with all settings maxed at 1920x1200.

Thats no surprise. Even in DX9 mode if you run the shadow resolution all the way up and the shadow quality on the highest level it will drag down a single 8800gtx into the high 20's to low 30's and thats with 4XAA at 1680X1050.
What I found interesting was that if you cut the shadow resolution down to 1024 and the run the shadow quality on medium the game under DX9 mode would gain about 20fps on a single 8800GTX. The trade off for the FPS is well worth it as the shadows really dont look that much different on the lower setting.
Fortunately for me renaming the game launcher to read Oblivions SLI profile setting gets me double the FPS in COJ when using sli. ;)
Now keep in mind I have yet to try DX10 mode so I cannot only speak for my experiences under DX9 mode.

Here is a shot with alot of the stuff turned down and it's still pretty slow. I'm not bashing NVIDIA, I love my card it does great in most games but it does have problems with DX10. Hopefully it's more of a game engine or driver issue though but so far my initial DX10 impressions haven't been good. I also get tired of NVIDIA and ATI thinking I need two video cards just to get good performance. For the amount I paid for my 8800GTX I shouldn't get any less than 35 to 40 FPS in games but maybe I expect to much who knows. :)

Dont worry about COJ too much. It was not built for DX10 from the ground up but was instead coded for DX9 with a DX10 patch added to it to give it DX10 elements.
My take is that its probably still only as efficient as it would be under DX9 while trying to run some DX10 visuals.
Remember that we have yet to see a built from the ground up DX10 title run on either the 8800GTX or 2900XT. A correctly coded DX10 game is supposed to be faster and more efficient all while looking better than DX9.
