Yes, Crysis not only looks a gazillion times better than COJ but it also seems to be running great on current hardware and is coded from the ground up for DX10.

Condemned - XP (no patch available)
2900XT (875|975) | Catalyst 8.38(7.5) | Conroe@ 2.4GHz
1680x1050, All settings maxed (soft shadows ON)
8xAF(in-game), 4xAA(in-game & driver, no difference)


Performance on this game can vary wildly. Some rooms drop down sub 40FPS and others hang around 120+FPS. Could be a driver issue. Game suffers around a 5fps performance hit with soft shadows enabled.

Condemned runs the FEAR engine, so it didn't surprise me to see it struggle a little in some areas. R600 doesn't like the FEAR engine too much right now.

One thing I can say is that it still holds true that this card likes more recent titles much more than it does games that have been out for a year or two like Condemned, Fear, etc. Rainbow Six Vegas, Test Drive Unlimited, DIRT, Lost Planet, etc... these are all newer games that it does quite well with and performance is more comparable to the 8800GTX. Games that are older like Condemned and FEAR it gets killed with right now by comparison.

And that makes sense from my perspective, because from the very beginning everyone speculated that G80 was built with heavy emphasis on DX9 titles. After all, it was released over 7 months ago and had to be. R600 seems to be scaling poorly with older titles and scaling better and better with newer titles that are coming out now and in the future.

Well here are some shots from my run-through with Condemned. The game ranges anywhere from 37-->127FPS:

Yeah but I thought that speculation was mainly because of the early rumors that the G80 would not be built around a fully unified architecture?

But seeing as those rumors were just rumors after all I really don't see how this could be true. I guess we will just have to wait and see how crysis runs on the 2900XT vs the 8800GTX.

Now for the 8800GTX condemned gets eatin the F alive, it runs it even better than it runs FEAR.

Part of it was, but everyone still expected G80 to do better with DX9 titles, I think. ATI seemed to be looking more into the future since they had already designed one GPU w/ Unified Shaders for DX9 in the 360.

Yes, but even with davids system (1900gto-watered down X1900XT and a AMD cpu) hooked up to this wide screen monitor of mine his lowest FPS with condemned under the same settings was 40fps so I know the X1900XT would do a good bit better.

Remember ATI's drivers have come a long way for the X1900XT from back when I played this game on the old 1280X1024 monitor along with a X2 4800.

Well, who knows. It could be a driver issue, and then again it might not. The architecture of the 2900XT is completely different from the 1900XT and might just be suited better for future games. As I said, it's been a consistent theme so far in these games I've been testing. The newer titles perform much better than the older ones.

No doubt, all I had to do to get SLI working with it was to rename the games executable to something like Oblivion.exe or Trl.exe to get SLI to scale with it.;)
