more power draw
hotter? i duno bout this one. just from observation.
It's definitely a "yes" on both counts there. They both go hand in hand.. the more power, the hotter it's probably going to get. And this beast on air gets hot.. REALLY hot. At idle, it's about the same as the GTX or maybe slightly cooler. But under load I'd say it's definitely hotter.
The first night I tested it, I was using my buddy's rig and he has a 1280x1024 monitor. Well all I can say is it makes a BIG difference in heat going from 1280x1024 to my 1680x1050. I finished a bench w/ Oblivion on the stock cooler and put my hand on the back of the card in the section the GPU sits on and just about burned the skin of my fingers off.
Now ATI's cards have always been well built to withstand heat for long periods of time, but I just don't feel comfortable about it. Mine loads around 50C now, and I couldn't be happier. Put this baby on water and it's no longer an issue.. the sky is the limit. It's overclocked where it is right now on stock voltage, and the new ATI Tool will unlock even more headroom with its voltage adjustment. I expect to get to at least 925 on the core when all is said and done.. maybe 950. 1GHz would be a wet dream.

i got these because my dominators would refuse CAS3 (even at 2.5vdimm and additional vMCH) at 800mhz on this board. ddr2 is cheap as ass right now, so i figured wtf. time to experiment.

My Gskill came packaged up like that also. I love this memory, so much in fact that I have 4gbs of it. :afro2:

Go look on fleabay and you'll see a bunch of those Visontek HD 2900XT cards for 389usd. Someone probably bought a lot of them from BB and are now reselling them.
BTW here's another ATi forum with decent guys-

If you look on their site, their prices are actually pretty decent! It's in the stores where they rip you off, I guess.
They had an 8800GTS that I saw selling for 379.99$. Regular pricing on the 2900XT was $399. Not bad at all.

A quick question Xion,if you didnt already have the waterkit enabling big overclocks with close/on par to GTX performance , would you still buy it over the 8800 GTX?(I mean now with G80 drivers with more maturity than they had when you owned your cards)

Yes. As long as ATI is around and they put out competitive products, I may never go back to Nvidia. I've just had too many bad experiences with them in relation to ATI.
I hate to say that because it sounds cold, but here's what I've dealt with:
Radeon 9800 Pro - 1st videocard ever, ran perfect for one year
Radeon 850XT - 1st card purchase, ran perfect for year and a half
GeForce 7900GTX - 1st card purchase was DOA
GeForce 7900GTX - 2nd card purchase had memory issue, paused in games for one minute intervals at times
GeForce 7950GX2 - 1st card purchase ran perfect for the 3 days that I had it, RMA'd for vsync'ng issue with SLI and went back to my 7900GTX
GeForce 8800GTX - 1st card purchase for SLI, bad resistor, had to be RMA'd
GeForce 8800GTX - 2nd card purchase for SLI, bad resistor, had to be RMA'd
GeForce 8800GTX(watercooled edition - BFG) - 3rd card purchase for SLI replacement, died after 2 months
GeForce 8800GTX - 4th card purchase for SLI, ran perfect
GeForce 8800GTX - 5th card purchase for SLI, ran perfect
Radeon 2900 XT - 1st card purchase, ran perfect until I installed the waterblock too tight and killed it (user error)
Radeon 2900 XT - 2nd card purchase for replacement, runs perfect to this day
Add to that three dead 680i motherboards that I've had to RMA, and you get the picture. I wish you guys the best of luck w/ your Nvidia hardware, but until they get their quality control under control, I'll have to look elsewhere for my hardware purchases. I know that most of their stuff is probably just fine, but after so many experiences you begin to get a bad feeling, if you know what I mean.

First card:Canopus 3dfx voodoo 6mb PCI (still have it and it works)
Second card:Canopus Voodoo2 12 mb PCI
Third card :Added a second Canopus v2 and ran them in SLI
Fourth and my first nvidia card:leadtek geforce 256 32mb AGP (no issues)
Fifth card :Creative Geforce 2 gts AGP (killed it while overclocking it and they lost it during the RMA process and gave me my money back)
Sixth card :Asus Geforce 3 ultra AGP (no issues)
Seventh card:Leadtek Geforce ti4600 ultra AGP (no issues)
Eighth card:Leadtek Geforce FX5900 ultra 256mb AGP (no issues)
Ninth card: HIS ATI X850XT AGP (had stuttering issues, never really liked the card much)
Tenth card: BFG 8800GTX (Kept BSOD every 30 minutes, most certainly a driver issue ,RMA)
Eleventh card:BFG 8800GTX OC (worked for 2 hours then refused to render any 3D apart from small red pixels:rolleyes: RMA)
And the 12th and final card is the current one:ASUS 8800GTX (works perfectly im glad to say not one issue with it since i got it)
I also had 2 nforce boards die on me,the first soltek nforce 2 (user error),the second ASUS P5N32-SLI SE DELUXE was DOA.

Woah, I had issues with cards from both sides aswell, only listing cards that no longer work, the ones in my sig still work:
- ATI Rage (Integrated) 1Mb - Artifacts (from server, still usable though)
- nVidia Geforce 2 - Black screen and post beeps, dead, no reason for it
- nVidia Vanta LT 16mb - Same as GF2
- nVidia Geforce 4600TI - GPU fried, user error (ASUS)
- ATI Radeon 9000 - Artifacts (ASUS)
- ATI Radeon 9600XT - Had to replace fan twice (Connect3D)
- ATI Radeon 9600XT - Artifacts (Connect3D)
- ATI Radeon 9800 Pro - Artifacts (Connect3D)
- ATI Radeon 9800XT - Artifacts (Connect3D)
- nVidia Geforce FX5700 Ultra - Dead memory, shows only 64mb and won't let pc get past post (XFX)
- nVidia Geforce 6800GT - Artifacts (XFX)
- ATI Radeon x850 - Dead fan + Artifacts (Club3D)
Been lucky with mainboards so far, had to RMA an ASUS P5B-E Plus twice before replacing it with a nForce mobo. Also killed a p4b mobo once by putting a sd-ram dimm in a ddr socket... how smart...
The cards listed in my sig are all still working, the list above are all damaged, one wich is a user error, being the 4600.

Nice scores, Obie. :) What do you have your XT clocked at?
Try turning your shaders up to high if you want to see the full potential of that demo.
