What do you mean? It was rated at 2.3V when I purchased it and wouldn't run on anything less than that.
???
Jakup had the same stuff on a different platform (680i vs my P965 at the time) and had the same issue as me.. it was just G.Skill rated at a higher voltage that wouldn't boot with less than 2.3v.

Your northbridge (possibly? )wasn't stable. same with jakup. 680i uses same straps i think.
i like my DFI board because i have direct access to the NB straps and latencies :)
I prefer Intel chipsets myself and I am very happy with my single GTX. I've had it since release and it helps that I can run it at Ultra speeds.
both of the above.. singlecard ftw!

Even Ben (buffbiff21), an 8800GTS owner, admits as much. Then again, he's a true enthusiast while you, on the other hand, are an insecure little Nvidiot fanboy who has such thin skin that things like this become threatening to him.
hey leave me out of this:afro2:
i dont care about companies. i care about which gives me the biggest epenis. i also think it's silly to "argue" fact. there are no opinions in benchmarks, and that's why you won't often see me poke my head in to waste time arguing fact.
i am the antithesis of opinion.

Well you know what, forget it then. I will. You know, I've gone through a lot of trouble to post benches and give all of you guys a close up view of the R600, the least a few of you could do is vouch for me and help keep stupid trolls like this off my back. You guys know me.. you know I'm not some fanboy who latches onto one camp or the other. But if you guys can't back me on this and instead want to have your forum overrun with insecure trolls like Trademark, then be my guest. I'm not going to be a part of it.
I admit that I'm passionate about this stuff, but the reason is that I want a fair playing field where we have a crop of enthusiasts who can sort through all of the BS and look at things for what they are. See the truth behind the lies, so to speak.
But it looks like my efforts in large part are wasted. All of you would rather sit back and have trolls like this spouting unsubstantiated BS left and right and turning this place into a circus.

Then tell this guy to shut his trap, then. He won't take it from me.. he thinks I'm a frikken ATI fanboy even though I've owned nothing but Nvidia products for the last two years practically, so someone else is going to have to tell him!

Well sometimes it's needed in order to keep trolls like this guy from derailing a perfectly good thread. This thread was going along just fine until he decided to pop in and start calling people fanboys left and right and get personal with others. I get so sick of crap like this. I get so sick of people who let their insecurities get in the way of the facts, and if many of you aren't motivated enough to try and keep this kind of BS off the forum, then I guess I'll have to look for another community elsewhere.

Xion, you need to calm down. This is the internet- not real life. Step back from your computer, grab something to drink, and just cool it buddy. You are taking this way too personal.
I have my new monitor. It maxes at 1680x1050. I also have my new tower. I will be assembling it all tonight. I will throw up some numbers as well with a single GTS. Hopefully I'll be able to OC my proc some. Again, I'll report back tonight on how well it all goes.
We can compare my numbers to yours. Unfortunately my processor is significantly slower than yours- even with your proc stock. You'd have to drop your clock speed down to like 1.5Ghz to match the performance of my Opty at stock. :( Regardless, we can see what happens.
And don't worry Xion, I am backing you up with this. Just I haven't really had much of a rig for benchmarking considering the temperatures I've been running at. Last night, after I quite out of Oblivion (played it for about an hour straight) my GPU core temp was 70*C even. If I were to bench it'd be at stock speeds and stock speeds only. My proc was at about 55*C (right after I exited Oblivion). So there'd be no way for me to OC my proc to closer match your procs performance levels. Hopefully tonight I'll be able to.
In the meantime, just calm down buddy. There's no need to take this as you have. We can put this to rest later tonight. If I can post my results, and if Buff can post his again, and then directly compare them to yours- we can see how well the GTS scales with processor power and how it directly compares to your XT.

i respect what youre trying to do, but if they cannot acknowledge fact then it is them who are at loss.
im willing to work with you to provide the most accurate comparison between GTS and XT. since we have the same cpu and max res, that is not difficult to do.
Giving a cold hard 100% accurate comparison in multiple games should be enough to can this "argument." i believe your results; what reason do i have not to?
i checked up on that thread at tardforum, and some people dont believe the screenshots that we posted are legitimage comprarisons, so if you want to work with me to prove them wrong, then im game. pm me your AIM address and we can talk when i get home from work.

Xion seriously,i DID defend you vs crap like this ,even if i didnt agree with all you said at all times i still defended you when things got rough.(Trademark was one of those i directed my comment at)Tbh this feud with you and trademark looked far too personal and you seem perfectly capable of coping with it.

This is getting out of hand and kinda silly tbh,i mean Xion owns a GFX's card, does he really have to defend it,defend ATI's decisions regarding its design and the outcome of those designs ?
Some of you come down on him like he is on trial or something, nitpicking in the worst possible way,who gives a damn about a few FPS here and there ? Me personally care **** about angle-depandant this or that or if catalyst ai is on or not.
FFS give the guy a break,so what if he owns a ATI 2900 and likes it,its his damn choice so stop this nitpicking and anal-retentive scrutinizing of his every word. Some have wondered why so many have left this board recently,i for one have a clue about why that is.Healthy discussions are one thing but some of this is bordering on hostility so stop it please, pick your navel-lint and look at it from a angle and then apply some filtering to it:thumbdwn:

Ah well since we are on the subject: Trademark, this thread was mainly about comparing the r600 vs the GTS/GTX with benchmarks, different games using the same settings to actually stop the speculations and get the facts straight. It was never meant to be the shouting match you made it into.Xion isnt as he says a ati fanboy,i dont really see where you get that idea?
He likes his new card sure but we all do that .I too had similar issues as he did but then again i never overclocked much and have yet to loose all faith in the nforce chipsets.I think its sad that you kept on pushing it,constantly digging and getting far to personal in your namecalling and offensive comments.
There are other threads of a more speculative nature where those discussions can be had and in hindsight i think he is right, you did mess this thread up quite a bit.In the end its just computer components and allthough most of us are passionate about this there really isnt any point to take it this far so stop it now ...PLEASE !
Maybe the damage has already been done and this is too late but as i said i tried earlier but niether i or anyone else here except the mods can control or censor what people say and in wiew of that Trademark i hope you can start censoring yourself a bit.As i said in the other response healthy discussions are one thing, this one got out of hand ...waaaay out of hand so please step back and breath a bit and keep the namecalling out of this, theres no call or need for it.
We actually proved something here and that is that the 2900 is a good card, far better than the first drivers showed. In its standard trim it will compete favourably to the GTS and lies between that and the GTX in performance. With o/c it will come close to a standard GTX,on par sometimes ,worse sometimes with current drivers. We can safely say that some of the earlier rewiews has no merit ,with newer drivers the card performs much better . We also know that the card lacks in some areas compared to the GTX but excels in others that we might not see until newer games are out.The heat issues when o/c on air and higher power requirements vs the GTS cannot hide the fact that its a good card, not the revolution ATI banked on but nvidia sneaked the G80 under their radarscreens .All in all this thread could help someone out thats curious about both cards and make a descicion based off that can be found here.
Not a bad feat imo.

Guys, I'm sorry that I snapped like I did. I have some things going on in my life right now that have me a little stressed.
I know that Sammy has backed me on here; Ben has posted links to our benchmarks over on hardocp in support of the XT; Redeemed has spoken up repeatedly on my behalf; Blacklash has spoken up over on hardocp and corrected some folks. So I do realize that.. I guess my temper just got the best of me. For that I apologize.
On a personal note, I have a lot of fight in me, I know.. I don't back down from anyone or anything in real life, and sometimes that same attitude comes out in my posts. I know I shouldn't let it get to me quite so much.. it just really irks me when I see someone disrespecting others out of pure hatred and ignorance. This troll waltzes in here after two months thinking he can talk trash to long-time members who have built systems that would run circles around his. That's just not right.
Trademark, I'm going to try and reason with you one last time. If you want to keep on spouting off about how I'm an "ATI Fanboy," then you go ahead. That's your right. But all you are really doing is putting your own ignorance on display. I have devoted a good amount of time over the last year and one month of my life to discussing Nvidia hardware with guys and helping them with it. I have owned 7 Nvidia graphics cards and 5 Nvidia motherboards in the past two years. I have built watercooled 8800GTX SLI systems and constructed build logs for other guys looking to watercool their GTXs:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=85643&highlight=poseidon
I am the furthest thing from an ATI fanboy that you will find, but I'm also not going to keep devoting my resources to a company that has failed me on the hardware front as much as Nvidia has recently. That is not a statement of the company on the whole but on my personal experiences with them. I choose not to go with them just as you choose not to go with ATI. It's that simple.
If you have anything else to say to me, then I suggest that you say it through PM. I am not, nor will I ever adhere to your desires to quit praising the 2900XT when it deserves it or quit posting benchmarks that show it competing favorably against the 8800GTS or GTX. If you have issues with that, then that is your problem. Not mine.

Sorry if any of my comments made it any worse. I'm not sure what's going on in your life right now, but uhm you're not the only one who has a temper

Heh, might aswell say the same thing of myself :o
This troll waltzes in here after two months thinking he can talk trash to long-time members who have built systems that would run circles around his. That's just not right.
I'm not the trolling kind of figure, when I was argueing with you I was finding it rather hard to understand how one could be so devoted to a card that is IN MY OPINION (not going to defend it anymore, because as sammy pointed out it's a waste and it ain't worth it) underperforming powerhungry card. Let's not discuss that now though lol
If you have anything else to say to me, then I suggest that you say it through PM. But you said you weren't praising it I can quote it and.... no j/k ;)
I'm calling it a day, temper can sometimes get a hold of me and like you I'm quite the fighter. I'd die fighting for what I believe in... well I wouldn't die for a 8800 though lol.
Hey, I'm not saying ATI is bad, not at all, I sure am proud to own their x800, 9200 (served me so well, for so long) and multiple 9800XT's (The ones listed in my sig are alive, I have more card but they are all in they holy walhalla)
Anyways, well yeah, that's it.

Yeah I was wrong to call him a this and that, just forget about it.

Rainbow Six Vegas, XP, v1.04 2nd run (first on 8.38s and @ stock on XT)
2900XT @ 875|975 | Catalyst 8.37.4.2 | Conroe@ 2.4GHz
1680x1050, 8xAF, Shadows = medium, all other settings = high
There's a real dilemma w/ ATI's drivers right now. Even though the 8.38s are the latest release, I believe the 8.37.4.2s are actually an early version of a future driver that will be released hopefully by month's end. Not only are they giving me much better performance in Rainbow Vegas & Oblivion, they are also more stable. The 8.38s are crashing on me left and right, and these don't seem to have that problem.
I went back and ran through R6 Vegas again, this time on the 8.37.4.2s and with an overclock. Graphics options were set up the same as the previous bench. Even at stock speeds, this game runs a lot better on this driver than the 8.38. With my card overclocked on the 8.38s, I saw maybe a 5fps increase on average which still put them faaaaar behind what I'm getting on these drivers w/ an overclock. As you can see from the screens, the game no longer slows down to 45fps with the soldiers on camera. Overall it feels as if performance has increased around 15-20fps over what it was on the 8.38s, WOW! Here are some shots:

I've spent the last 90 minutes recovering from a o/c attempt  Was kinda dumb and i should have gone to bed instead but i wanted to try if it worked.I set my ram to linked/synched for 1:1 and raised my NB voltage a tad,to 1.3v and cpu vcore up one notch only because i wanted to see if i could get away with it since so many hit 3-3.2ghz on standard voltage.
I was not so lucky however,i rasied the fsb to 1300 for 2.93 ghz with the ram at 650mhz.It booted up fine,i checked temps and didnt notice any difference. So i started orthos, ran it as rob suggested and instantly the cpu temp shot up to 54c and was climbing slowly. But as i reached for my mouse to stop it my screen went blank then bluescreened. After setting everything back in th bios and hitting save/exit files were missing in the registry:rolleyes: Didnt have a fresh acronis image saved so i had to use the recovery console chdsk /r command to repair it.
I should sleep now tbh, last week of my holidays and its allmost 8 am.Hehe impulses suck, should learn not to listen to them :p

I should sleep now tbh, last week of my holidays and its allmost 8 am.Hehe impulses suck, should learn not to listen to them :p
Dude, we've all been there. This is my 8th or 9th build, and I'm still running into stuff that stumps me by the day. I've been spending most of my day trying to solve both a slow boot in my BIOS that has been driving me crazy and also figure out why CPU-Z and Everest were reading my clocks wrong (clocks would consistently drop down to 1600MHz instead of 2400MHz on my CPU).. thought this new board was dying out on me already. Turned out unplugging a game controller fixed the BIOS problem and Intel's C1E Halt mode couldn't be disabled on this board by default, so I had to download a fix for it. This biz is an ongoing learning experience.. for all of us.
I'm sorry to hear about all of your OC'ng troubles, though. It seems you've tried everything I would have thought of. The only other thing I can think it might be is your power supply is giving out on you when you try to overclock. I would say that you've narrowed it down to either that or the motherboard.
I know that in the past I've gotten higher overclocks with better PSUs. It can sometimes make a difference.

XMAN, you're quite the gamer.. lol. Feel free to post any #'s you want. I don't have too many of the games you listed, though.. Oblivion and Riddick are the only ones I saw right off hand. And I don't have Vista to run the DX10 COJ demo with, either.
If you like you can download the DIRT rally demo. We've yet to see a GTS's #s on that game. That's a graphically demanding game that we all benched earlier in the thread.

I haven't loaded the packs yet for Oblivion, so give me an area(I have all the hidden areas available) that seems to stress your XT with the setting you use and I'll go there and run a quick 30 fraps bench on that area after running around a bit and post min, avg and max fps using your same settings.
Where can i get the Dirt demo? nZone? is it DX10 or 9? either way I'll run it. Can setting be changed? What settings would you like me to use? FYI, I forgot the most important part of my setup, the monitor. I have the Dell E228WFP HD HDCP 22".
And as to the number of games I have, I have about another 30 or so I didn't list as they wont run under XP as they are DOS based games.

X-
This is an Oblivion bench that buffbiff21 and I ran before. Set all of your in-game sliders to max, set your driver to 8x aniso and 4xAA with multisampling transparency AA for an identical comparison with us. Both benches were also ran w/ E6600s at 2.4GHz and both cards were overclocked to the max:

You can download the saves here and extract them to your Oblivion saves folder. There were 3 stressful locations that we tested at:

Get the DIRT demo(DX9) here:
www.filefront.com
This was also ran w/ E6600s @ 2.4GHz(most of these benches were) Set the DIRT demo to run at "high settings" which will enable 4xMSAA(transparency) and 16x aniso. Leave all effects "ON". Turn off any AA or AF options you may have enabled in the driver since you can use the in-game settings.
