If you really want an "Oblivion" outdoor stress test, compare the GTS and XT at the two below points using the save's orientation. Of course grass viewing distance max and iMinGrass 80, or default with whatever level of filtering you desire. To make it a meaningful test, I'd say no less than 4-8xAA|8-16xAF:

They are the most demanding I've tried with filtering active. (Particularly AA)

Also using 3rd person Camera (push R key) is much tougher than 1st person camera.

A little late- but I finally made it home from work. Is it just me, or could Friday not get here soon enough? I'm itching to get me a cute little thing to kick up some saw dust with. :p

Anyhow, I'm gonna' gut my rig now and transfer all the parts to my new case. I bought sand paper to lap the heatsink- but I'm not gonna' mess with that tonight. Let's just see how this rig will run in the new case as is. If I'm still not completely pleased with my temperatures then I'll probably lap the heatsink tomorrow night sometime. For now, I'm off to transfer components. ;) I'll run those saves in Oblivion once I get back.

And just for kicks- would ya'll like to see some GTS SLi scores for the heck of it? Just say so and I'll be glad to try it out. :D

Aww heck! I hate 3rd person! :p But if you insist... :p

Buff--give the Lost Planet DX9 demo a whirl. Run it at the same settings I ran it at on the first page of this thread. You don't have to turn AA on, because I don't think mine was working w/ it.

k.

i have FEAR too, but wasnt it running shyt with those drivers?

and what was that other demo you were running earlier?

DIRT is the rally demo that I was running. You can also try the Unigine Sanctuary benchmark that we were running earlier.

FEAR isn't running well on the 2900XT. Most games that are around 1 1/2 to 2 years old aren't. A lot of these newer games like Lost Planet, R6 Vegas, DIRT, Test Drive, etc. are using unified shader code which is much more suited to the 2900XT's architecture.

I don't know if you realized it at the time, but you and I benched the Lost Planet demo at different resolutions. I benched mine at 1280x960 and you at 1280x720. For the heck of it, I just ran through it with the same settings and my overclock at 1280x720 and got 80FPS instead of the 68 that I reported before:

http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/1912/lostplanetdx92007061304jn4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

I checked back at your bench HERE (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=1273540&postcount=411) and I'm matching your stock GTX run in the "Snow" section at 80FPS. Was AA working on your card, though? I don't believe that it was working with mine. The in-game menu won't let me enable it, and when I force it through the driver it doesn't seem to take.

So currently your card when overclocked performs roughly 10% slower than a default GTX with this game, not too shabby at all:thumbsup:

Yea im impressed how much difference the overclock makes with your card.If you can get within 10% or better of stock GTX performance you are doing very very well.If you can get it to 1000mhz/1000mhz later when giving it more voltage it would be very interesting ,certainly in newer games .

I'd say that 950 on the core (which is what I'm planning on; I think 1000MHz is a little out of reach) should put it just past a stock GTX on these current drivers. Then again, you can overclock a GTX to pull back ahead again.

I still think the key is how well each does with next-gen titles along with driver maturity. R600 is scaling much better with those than it is a lot of these older games. That's why it got slammed so much in the reviews. Not many reviews were benching Lost Planet, DIRT, Rainbow Vegas, Test Drive Unlimited, etc. Most of them were benching FEAR, Prey, Oblivion, etc which have been out for quite a while. There's a big gap in performance there from what I've seen so far with mine.

Tomorrow I'll have Test Drive and Flight Sim X and bench those for a comparison.

Alright ya'll- I'm back. I'm loving this tower. I could easily figure out a way to neatly manage my cables if I had more time. But it is 3AM right now, and I just wanted to get the system together. Anyhow, both GTSs are in, and if ya'll want I'll run through which ever game ya'll like at what ever settings ya'll prefer. SLi or no SLi, just let me know.

But... as for my temps- I'm thinking they dropped significantly. Remember, I have both GTSs installed right now whereas before I only had one installed:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y225/Sir_Farts_A_Lot/Misc/NewTower.jpg

As you can see, my proc is not quite idle, and the temps seem to be averaging at about 45*C- mind you this is with my Opty stock. I'm betting lapping the heatsink and making the cables a bit neater could knock that down to atleast 40*C average. What do you guys think?

Cool but TDU will need a lot of attention,i love that game tbh.Even without considering ANY of the competition and racing aspects of the game it still has tons to offer,in how many games can you drive on a whole island everywhere ? You can drive anywhere without limitations so theres a lot of truth to the name and damn ,it makes me wanna live on hawaii hehe.Too bad i dont have 16 houses 54 cars and 5 bikes there for real instead of in the game :p

Your temps looks fine, especially the gpu temps at 50/51 c idle,my GTX was also idling there before this heatwave struck, its up to 59 now because of a lot higher ambient temp.Managing to keep heat reasonably at bay right now because of 2 inlet 2 exhuast 120mm fans running at full tilt but they say temps will drop a bit today.

Thanks. It's good to know my temps are actually "normal" finally.

Only problem is- now I'm getting very frequent BSODs. Not sure why. I'm installing the new driver now- hopefully that'll solve the issue.

Temps look fairly normal. CPU might be running a tad warm, but the GPUs look good.

Sammy- Yeah, when I had my 360 I played the Test Drive demo over and over. I already love that game, and I haven't even played past the demo of it yet.

Try the 160.03 or the 165.01 beta that me and slinrob are using, both are stable and i havent had even one bsod for close to 2 months since i got my third GTX.The 165.01 is slightly faster than the 165.01 and both are faster than nvidias latest official drivers 158.xx.But their latest offical driver is as stable so it should work great aswell.

Yeah, the 165 drivers are quite stable. Used them for a while, but crashed when editing some game profiles, didn't bother looking for it again

Just got done with a new demo I found of this game called Overlord. It's kinda cool and has really good graphics, I think. It's too bad that the engine stays capped at 30fps the entire time, because it would be a good one to bench. It's a mix of platform/adventure. It's a trip because you get to control those minions and have them attack people and stuff.

Anyway, here are some shots...

One warning about drivers.

There is an "unofficial" Cat driver floating around out there that doesn't apply AA|AF when it's set in the CCC. It simply doesn't correctly save it.

The latests ones should be fine.

BTW here's one to add, Stock GTS 640mb vs Stock HD 2900XT in GRAW 2 here:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=144645&page=10

The GTS guy is even using Vista. Also, didn't someone determine in this thread that 1600x1200 is slightly more demanding that 1680x1050?

Hrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Mike I think this new bios might be this boards saving grace. All of the FSB holes are now gone and I just did a reinstall of windows with a FSB@450mhz and my CPU at 3.6ghz using a 8X multi and my mem at 900mhz.

It installed windows without corrupting any files in the process! something it never could do before.
