Dude WTF. That is horrible.

lets see, 1680x1050, 4xTMSAA, 16xAF, all setting maxed with HDR on, a 3800+@2.5, 2GB ram, and factory clocks for a BFG 8800GTSOC 640MB. It should be about right.

I dont know about that. I actually dont think it should be that low.

I trust you, I'm just saying take a close look at the screenies posted. The last pair, the wall in the middle, if you look closely, you can see the AA fade affect. But on the first 2 pair, you dont see that at all on the rocks. Atleast one my nice 22" monitor, it just appears as jaggies without the fade step of AA. Also, take a look at you Oblivion config file, it looks as though it support nPatches. enable it and see if it does work with your card.
I honestly don't know what you're talking about with any of the above, sorry.

4xAA still doesn't clean it up entirely; for that you need 8x or above. But as you can see it's much cleaner than no AA at all. Notice especially around the top of the arch area.. many more jaggies w/o AA.

I believed you, I've seen screenies with and without. Just that the fade affect wasn't noticable of the shots with AA, thats why I asked.

When I say fade I mean kinda like this:

no aa:
:::::
:::::::
:::::::::
:::::::::::
with aa
:::::.
:::::::.
:::::::::.
:::::::::::.

The extra (.) in the aa lines is my way of showing the aa the card does to transition between two line levels on angled lines. a fade if you will.

"Fade effect?" I can't really comment on it because I've never heard of the term nor the concept.

iNPatchNOrder=0
iNPatchPOrder=0
iNPatches=0
iLocation Y=0
iLocation X=0

That is from the config ini file for oblivion, under the heading of display.

And Fade effect is the best way I can discribe what AA does to make jaggie disappear or appear as thou they do.

That makes sense and is a good way to illustrate it.

Glad someone gets what I'm trying to conviegh here. Thought I was going nuts with how I was trying to discribe it.

My results, and that was harsh.

That is the most evil location I have been able to find. It's the most GPU limiting with AA|AF + HDR and max in game quality settings.

I don't know why folks keep retesting my first three saves from around Bravil. They don't hold a candle to the later dense grass shots saves I've posted.

Save 203, 199 and 187 are the most demanding ones I've posted.

Saves 187 and 199 are not as demanding as 203, and they will limit my overclocked GTX to 32FPS with 8xAA + HDR Transparency Multisample AA and 16xAF with patch 1.2.

You should install patch 1.2. It looks like your distant land is still soup.

Save tests like these are useful because they may show rock bottom FPS in an extremely demanding scenario. It only gets better. They are hard to fudge too, because if folks turn off or turn down grass you can spot it immediately.

Didn't know there was a newer patch out. And what is even more harsh is that I had another user name in here, was never banned or anything, just forogt my ps and never got around to changing my email addy for it to my current addy. I've been coming here since the site started.

Well there are the patches:

If you don't have "The Shivering Isles" use the regular "Oblivion" patch down the page a bit.

I have Shivering Isles and The Knights of the Nine, but neither installed.

Tell me how they compare to the 2900XT shots earlier. I dont run with AA on when I play as I never notice them while playing. Only when I'm not moving/doing something and just staring at the screen do I see them.

Chill man,i was just kidding :) I thought your charachters headgear looked like the popes hat ,thats all:)

I was asking you for your opion on the IQ between the screenies man. That was all, nothing more than that. :)

I'm not going to run any more Oblivion benches; I think we've seen enough. If you've seen one, you've seen them all.. the cards are all scaling about the same in different locales. GTX out in front, XT a little behind, GTS a little behind that.

I've installed the GRAW2 demo and will bench it tomorrow. Hopefully Test Drive will come in tomorrow, too. For now I have to get to bed.

Given that info, I'd have to say then the issue is between Oblivion and Vista64. If you had Vista32 installed and could reproduce the same error, then it would be Vista period. But with what you have said, and given no driver error is given. I'd say it has to do with a 32bit game in a 64bit OS.

That is pretty much what I've assumed. There is one little "tweak" that I have not tried yet. I keep forgetting. I'll try it now and see if that fixes it.

As for my comp, I'm not sure what is up with the BSODs. It hasn't done it since the last time I mentioned it (how many hours ago was that? :p ). Maybe I fixed the problem. :D

Oblivion 1.2

Save 203 - Corvexius Lydon - The Gold Coast, Level 9, Playing Time
04.02.01.ess

1680x1050
Xp Pro
max ingame+HDR
16xAA 4xAA TMS
e6600 stock
8800GTX stock

This is a little weird,i know we have done oblivion benches to death but i wanted to compare 165.01 vs 158.22 and the outcome wasnt what i expected.The latest official nvidia xp driver is 10% faster than the 165.01 for oblivion or atleast it doesnt dip as low.Not what i expected tbh.I also did the same with 160.03 and that was exactly the same as 165.01 so i didnt bother posting that.I also had issues with 165.01 removal with driver cleaner,did the standard safemode procedure when testing 160.03 after 165.01 and drivercleaner told me the files were gone but still the 160 installer asked if i wanted to overwrite newer existing files,strange, i havent had that with any other driver before.

165.01 beta

Dude that's messed, I get like 50fps there with QTP3 and aa enabled. Using 158.xx drivers, was using 16x.xx before, not much difference for me.

You are overclocked at 3.6ghz,im at 2.4 ghz and tbh i dont think rob gets 50 there with his SLI setup even,this is the most extreme save backlash posted.Xman gets 12fps with his GTS.

I use performance mods aswell, could be part of it. QTP3 is kinda heavy anyways.

I'm using Streamline 3.0, short grass, less polygon grass when playing normally (no benchies) + 80 other mods. Especially low polygon grass helps alot in performance.

sammy sung
06-14-07, 07:52 AM
I have no performance mods at all,this is as much grass as the game can give you.It was why we tested like this,to all have the same settings in the controlpanel and ingame,no enhancers.

Odd though, resolution shouldn't make that huge difference, I was fine on 16xAA / 16xAF at 1280x1024 High Quality in that shot (No mods, launcher generated ini and put everything in game to max). Only difference is my cpu speed.

Or is that shot u have there a new savegame I don't know of?

I'll try later, right now I'm making a mod for oblivion. Anyways maybe we won't need those saves anymore in the future since the guys from Streamline are adding an oblivion benchmark in their next version.
