Never tried any of the performance enhancing mods.will check that streamline out though.

I can tell you one thins, Streamline keeps your fps alot more balanced, it reduces frame bouncing quite a bit. Low poly grass greatly enhances performance.

i dont think rob gets 50 there with his SLI setup even
My SLI setup went bye bye as of last night. Good riddance Nvidia POS chipset, you will not be missed. There are way to many details for me to get into with the issues that I was having with that board. Lets just say if your a big overclocker and have 4 sticks of memory that intel boards are really the only way to go as there reliability and stability are unmatched by anything else on the market today.
I am back on my favorite all time motherboard the Asus P5b delux where I can run happily at 500+fsb with all 4 ram slots filled with ram and get nothing but rock solid stability.
1 8800GTX at 1680X1050 is plenty.

Lol Rob,i thought i read something about you finding a new bios and that it looked much better ? Did it tank on you or something ?
EDIT: Saw your edited post,understandable.

Yes it made a sudden change for the worst:thumbdwn: That was the straw that broke the camels back for me.
You see, Im a big overclocker and to me overclocking is part of the fun, I have a very nice air cooled system that does a heck of a job at cooling and with that Asus 650I plus holding back my OC so much I really didnt feel like I was getting my moneys worth and I was not happy running my ram below its rated speed along with being shortchanged over 300mhz worth of OC on my CPU.
That board was ok as long as you didnt expect to get big Overclocks with it but I mean hell I could not even get it to run a 400mhz fsb mem test stable and thats really not asking for all that much. :thumbdwn: And believe me, before anyone says anything you can be rest assured that I had the board a few months and tried every last damn option out there that there was to try to see if I could get this board to OC better. You name it and I did it!
The P5b delux only cost me $112.00 off of newegg.com and the board is an overclockers dream:D 500+fsb with no fuss and no stupid ass memory issues.
Right now on my new board I am running the following-
E6600@3.6ghz
4gbs Gskill Ram at 900mhz 4 4 4 5 at just 2.1vc
Mem test is now about to complete 2000% error free so you can pretty much say my ram is rock stable. :p

You should create your Own UBCD4Windows disk. It would help you recovers stuff when you have issues.

I use acronis,i had a saved image of c on my drive so i restored it in 7 minutes but that image is a clean one, fresh install so no games are installed on it.

Did a Windows repair not work? Most of the time I find that works and it doesn't delete all your files.

Agreed, I just reinstall windows under a repair if my OS gets corrupted.

I could never figure out how to do a windows repair (in XP). There have been a few times where the setup program would detect that XP was already installed and offer to repair it- and that worked.
But most times the only option is the recovery console- and I never could figure that one out. :o
As such, back when I was using XP- I'd typically just reinstall the OS if I could not get into safe mode and use system restore.

I have a way to fix a XP system that has a corrupt or missing "Windows/system32/config" registry file missing in under 10 minutes and it doesn't require using repair or reinstall either. Of course, it depends on whether or not system restore is enabled on the machine ofcourse.

You do that by opening the recovery console by pressing r when win setup have finished loading all the files. You then log on to your windows partition by hitting 1 and enter ,it asks for a password but if you havent entered one you just hit enter again. Then you start the checkdisk utility by typing chkdsk /p and hit enter. It will then check your selected drive and do a summary. If it says one or more errors detected you type chkdsk /r wich will start repairs and then just wait until its done/reboot and you should be good to go.
I installed a new heatsink(thermalright 120 ultra extreme) today and had to remove the board because it needed a support bracket behind the board. After putting everything back together it wouldnt boot all the way to desktop and kept hanging on the xp loading screen.I first thought that the gfx/soundcard wasnt seated properly and pushed them down but that didnt help.
I then checked the disk and it repaired the error but it still wouldnt boot to desktop.I had no way of getting in there to save files on c (its really starting to bug me that more and more games drop their save files there) so i bit the bullet and used my c disk backup with acronis,it takes like 7 minutes to replace the whole drive. But still the same thing:( So i removed both the sound card and my GTX and wiped the pci-e connectors, pushed them back in and then it worked.
So i basicly did that c restore without needing it wich feels like crap.If i had removed both cards completly instead of just pushing on them i could have saved the time i had invested in that game.I was ranked around 100 online but now i dont even have a moped:p I know its just a game but investing that much time in something you enjoy and having to start over from scratch sucks.:thumbdwn:
The ultra is great,im at 2700mhz and idling 7-10 c lower than the zalman 9500 did at default 2400mhz and i havent event got the the 110cfm fan im gonna use for it yet,im using a papst 1200 rpm 41cfm fan atm.It is big though, tall and wide and there's maybe 1/2 inch of clearence to the sidepanel.

I know how you feel rob,im starting to really hate this board and its 680i chipset.I tried everything for 6 months to get it stable beyond 2700 mhz but its hopeless,i tried to give the nb 1.4v as you suggested and upped the cpu vcore 2 notches, set the fsb/ ram iin synched 1:1 mode and set the fsb to 1333 for 3.0 ghz,a speed that 8 out of 10 can run without changing voltage,in unlinked or linked mode. But mine wont even reach desktop,it hangs before windows starts loading.Got it to desktop at 2.92 ghz but then it bluescreened within a minute.Im giving up an further oc attempts as it wont even pass 300 fsb.

The biggest problem with the 650 and 680i chipsets is heat. They produce way to much and the heat pipe configs being used I feel dont do well enough in removing that heat. The heat only increases as the fsb does. I hopw someone makes a really good 3rd party chipset cooler for these things outside of water cooling. My brother has the Asus 650i based board and we had to settle for 2.4ghz with his E4300 on it. Anything above that and it wouldn't boot.

Unfortunately the heat is only 1 of the many problems that the nvidia chipsets are plagued with.

You'd need one of those house-sized supercomputers to calculate all the problems w/ 650i/680i.
If Einstein were resucitated tomorrow, he couldn't count them all.

Did you put a 40mm fan (http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/sunon40x20mm.html) on the NB? That may help? I use it for my board (with 2 small wood screws) and it works wonders on OC'ing stability.

This is correct, I read a few complaints (http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTI0NCwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==) about this board.
Only a few:spank:
But to be far they have released a few bios updates to fix the problems.

Been there done that myself, my NB went from scorching hot to just barely warm to the touch after adding the fan but guess what? it didnt do jack **** for stability which pissed me off even more because it was just another stupid thing with this board that made no sense.

not with A1s.
I know you went through your fair share of 680i problems, but I had been running overclocked PCIe lanes with OCed vid cards, heavily overclocked CPU and overvolted CPU and RAM and SPP loaded with HDDs stacked with plenty of USB devices and i did not experience one lock up on the A1. With AR, my PS/2 mouse port did not work, and I got SATA data corruption, plus some fan headers didn't work, so I RMA'd it.
Still, I don't like my southbridge running at 60C even with the beehive 40mm fan running fullblast.
Goodbye 680i! :bye:
