Here's how I feel and all these statements apply to me.

We need to stop buying buggy half-arsed hardware and software when it's released. I am going to make a conscious effort to control myself.

When we support it, they'll continue to do it.

It seems with hardware and software the attitude is push it out and then fix it to a point where it should have been at release over the next 6-12months. If it can't be completely fixed no big deal because they will release something else folks will buy anyway. The later product may address the old issues and have new ones of its own.

This is one of the reasons I have sworn off buying MMORPGs when they are first released.

This is done a lot and there is not no one great offender. I see it a lot with operating systems, motherboards, graphics cards, video games etc etc.

The problem is you often have suits declaring when X will be released and the folks responsible for making it ready may not be able to keep up. Since this activity is rewarded, ie we still buy it, they continue to engage in it.

I feel we are doing ourselves a disservice. I am going to try to tighten up my behavior.

Sammy, how come your screens look so much more washed out than everyone else's? There's no specular effect coming off those textures in Riddick at all, and that's one of the things that look best about that game.

I use a lot more gamma/brightness in my games than you seem to do,cant see whats going on in yours half of the time:) (For me your TRA settings would be unplayable)

Also adding some with lower gamma/brightness settings that might suit you better:)

I still get that to this day. :thumbdwn: And I'm using the latest non-beta drivers as well.

Then something is screwed up. I played through FEAR a few times with a single 8800GTX at 1680X1050 with 16XAA and 16XHQAF and never had performance like that. In fact it has always ripped through that game for me.

Hell look at my screens in the other thread. Even on the earlier drivers I had good performance with fear.

SLINROB

It did it on mine too. I was running XP at the time. There were some rooms on F.E.A.R. where you were underneath metal grates that were casting shadows and the scene was crawling along at about 15fps. It was barely playable.

Up until a month ago when I was still running a GTX it still had several issues running that game well.

I remember you talking about that problem but I was never able to reproduce it. Fear always flew for me on a single 8800GTX.

Maybe it was another bad driver install?

SLINROB

That's exacly what I'm talking about. SLi has no effect in such areas. Actually, SLi with the 8800s seems to be a joke at the moment.

Umm, NO. you couldnt be anymore wrong about that statment.

Even with 8800GTX SLI on Extraction Point with my Conroe overclocked to 3.6 I got slowdowns to 30fps there at the beginning where the church is just before that freaky girl walks in and sets it on fire.

It may have done that for you with the drivers you were using but as far as the 165.01's are concerned they tear that game up.

I just beat extraction point and in SLI with 16XAA+MS and 16XHQAF not once did it ever dip under 60fps. Not even once.

He's running Vista.

And I used several different drivers (including the 165.01s) and always had flaky performance in F.E.A.R... right to the end. If you've never had it, then count yourself lucky. I don't know what we're doing differently. Maybe it's because you had your cards overclocked and I didn't. Many have had problems with it, though. There's even a thread about it on the forum; it appears to be some kind of memory leak occurring in the drivers that causes random slowdowns in games--F.E.A.R. in particular:

Any one feel like reporting their best SM 2.0 and 3.0 scores in 3dmark06 on a single GPU? I say it like that because I already know 2 x GTS and 2 x HD 2900XT are faster than one GTX. :p I think a HD 2900XT has to get to about 880MHz to do my scores and I am not certain. I also didn't mention total score because that can be easily inflated with a quad core while SM 2.0 and 3.0 remain the same.

Anywho there's the best I can get with a single air overclocked GTX-

SM 2.0 Score 6049 Marks
SM 3.0 Score 5875 Marks

Just to validate what I say-

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=2014598

That was doing 675|1027 (2054 effective). I have a Thermalright HR-03 Plus as my cooler.

BTW Riddick does look cool and I never tried it either. So I may do that too. It would be interesting to try it under Vista.

Riddick is a kickass game. Really is. And it's still one of the best looking games to date.

Starbreeze Studios did that one, and those guys are programming geniuses. The game looks/runs incredible, has great gameplay, and has some trippy voice acting in it.

Nice. Can't wait to see the results. I have to work tomorrow. But I'll post my Oblivion results tomorrow night. I'm using Vista though... so we'll have to keep that in mind.

I'll be installing XP on my rig again next week when my new hard drive arrives. I aim to dual boot XP and Vista for testing purposes such as this here in this thread. ;)

Are you fellows running SM2.0++ or whatever it's called :p in Riddick?

@ 1680x with 4xAA max in game AF I am only getting 68FPS in the opening room with stock GTX under Vista x64 using those shaders and the said settings:(

When I can get Imageshack to work I'll fill in these details with shots. Now it is looping around to the starting page after I tell it to load and says done:

Stock GTX under Vista x64 @ 1680x Starting room-

Regular SM 2.0 4x AA max game AF = 184FPS

http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/152/rdxj3.th.jpg (http://img53.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rdxj3.jpg)

SM 2.0+++++++ :p 4x AA max game AF = 68FPS

Soft shadows carry a ridiculous FPS hit and regular setting run great.

More regular SM 2.0 (Auto) 1680x 4x AA max in game AF Vista x64-

I kept mine on auto (2.0). It wouldn't let me manually select soft shadows.

I'm getting really good results with Narrow-tent AA(6x) on Riddick. Relatively no performance hit from using 4x AA and very clean edges. Post some shots in a few.

Same settings w/ Riddick except using 6xAA (Narrow-tent). No performance decrease from 4xAA and very clean edges:

I like the tent settings in the last shots Xion. Aliasing is still around for me with regular AA. I haven't tried SSTA yet. Wide tent supposed to carry a more heavy hit than narrow.

EDIT: well TA does jack and crap for me in this game. I don't think it works. 8x AA didn't do a thing about the "other" aliasing that is going on outside of normal edges. All it did was give me a FPS hit.
