Clocks may not make up for missing shaders in certain benches. A guy in the thread I linked earlier with the bench download was getting 82FPS @ 1024x with a GTS @ 630 on the core and I believe a guy with a stock GTX was getting 113 or more @ the same res.
Sorry, should have added my temps to the post idle and load and it would have put my last statement into perspective. 51C/65C

That seems fine to me. I am 45-47C idle, and most often 55-57C load. I have a Thermalright HR-03 Plus installed on mt GTX with a 92mm fan. Playing older less demanding games with vsync on I barely rise above my idle temps. Hours of "Oblivion" @1680x with high levels of filtering is a good example of something that will raise me to the stated load temps.

Naturally that depends on ambient room temperature. In the Summer with the house cooled to 75F and if I have all system fans on low, I go up to 61C load. Medium system fan speeds keep me around the first stated load temps. In the Spring when the house was 70F I could idle as low as 41C provided I reduced my 2D Core clock to 300 with ATi Tool or Ntune.

A little off-topic, but if you want to bench oblivion and make it really hard on your system download Qarl's Texture pack 3, OOO+MMM+Frans (FCOM) + Natural Enviorments, All unique landscape packs.
QTP3 = well known high res texture pack (I believe it's 4096x4096)
FCOM = overhaul mods wich add ****loads of spawns and new creatures items aswell as taking a piss on your cpu with alot of scripts.
Natural Envoirments = Replaces water, vegetation, weather with higher res stuff
Unique landscapes = makes the great forest a great forest, it adds unique landscapes in great sizes all over the map (they cover almost the whole world map).
Makes the game look alot better while putting a real hard strain on your system. My fps now sits at like 40 max or something, I'm cpu limited though. When running 100 mods oblivion can get really nasty... and I mean... nasty...
Does anyone have any comments about this

He's premature. Driver AA isn't incompatible; it just doesn't work on some games right now. It works just fine on Oblivion, for example.

Forcing filtering from the CP supposed to be a last resort for games that do not have the option. If it's available, it's always best to set filtering levels through the application itself.
There are always exceptions, for example, when you want to use AA + HDR in "Oblivion".
x2900xt gaining benchies because of new drivers?

Wow, that's a bit late, Cat 7.6 was just released today.
i checked further the review...
when AA and AF is applied, the x2900xt is weak.

They only used Prey, HL2: LC and 3D06. I am using Cat 7.6 and I am noticing a big increase using stock clocks.

Everything on High (AKA maxed out) using 4x/16x @ 1680x1050 using stock clock. I don't have a benchmark with Cat 7.5. But I was wondering what everyone else was getting at stock clock.

Yeah supposedly the speed of AA is increased dramatically with the 7.6's
Especially the Alpha AA witch is supposed to be 2-3x faster depending on the game.
Also, the CFAA is supposed top be greatly improved and offering something that is totally unique as far as IQ goes.
But, we'll see.

Where are you hearing this? There are some performance increases with 7.6 but not with AA and AF enabled.

He has vsync enabled, but performance in that game is pretty much above 60 most of the time without vsync on either the x2900 or 8800's.

Try a demanding game with the 7.6s Xion :p
Do "DiRT", "Oblivion" or anything that is about their equal. Something that would keep you under 100FPS without vsync
Perhaps try the "Supreme Commander" Demo and see if it has improved.

I know that TRA doesn't stress it, guys. I just wanted to kick back and game a bit after doing nothing but benching for the last few weeks. I just thought I would post some screens to give those an idea of the IQ on this card.
And I think that Obie was replying to weeds (thus the 2 ^^'s), not to me.
Hey if you get a chance try disabling AI then enable 8x Box, Temporal AA and see if the IQ increases in TRA. :afro:
Edit:
Although I cannot confirm it at this time. There might be some performance gain in this
Edit: microcode update from MS was removed because it's not a critical update and someone posted that it decreased frame rates for games that are cpu dependant.

It's hard for me to tell if it has or not, but this helped fix a hitching problem I was having whenever looking directly into sunlight particles. For some reason that was causing the frames to drop. So that's good that it fixed this. :)
This overrides the in-game AA I guess? Does it work that way for every title that "application preference" isn't checked? This is my first ATI card in the last 2 years, so I'm still learning w/ the CCC. :)
Anyway, here are some shots w/ 8xAA Temporal:

For whatever reason in order to use CCC's feature you have to disable AI so keep that in mind. Narrow and wide tent simply blurs stuff so don't bother using it. I understand where they are going with it but there are no developers that allow for it's proper use (looking blurry in current games) at least IMO (lee63).
Temporal AA is a neat little feature that helps improve AA quality by making 2x look like 4x (in a nutshell ...this is only a example not an explanation regarding your settings). For example:
If you are using 4x Box then it will "look" like 6x Box. However, the down side is that you are limited to 60 FPS whenever you enable it. As long as you are doing better then 60 FPS you shouldn't run into problems. Earlier video cards had this problem so it wasn't feasible. I recall this feature since the x800/x850 days so it's not new. This is not a feature that you use when you bench. However is perfect when gaming (nana2). I was hoping you would notice how smooth the game is with it enabled. If it's not I suggest a slight OC so that you are always doing better then 59 FPS.
In a nut shell this over rides in game AA. As with any driver level AA it's not perfect and may or may not work with every game. So keep that in mind as well. But from what I read from your post so far so good.

Alright, thanks for the tips. Cool stuff about the temporal AA; I wasn't aware that it worked like that.
This Tomb Raider plays well over 100FPS for the most part, anyway, so it would be hard to gauge performance w/ the driver AA. But it does seem to have smoothed out the issue I was having w/ some of the lighting. Either a driver issue or maybe the 2900 doesn't like the in-game AA enabled, who knows. But it's better now, so thanks.
