Vista users seem to have more luck w/ AA on that game than guys who are running XP.

aaah, i thought these reviews and articles written lately have been so off, or my eyes and fraps were lying?
when i started the game at native res and settings, it looked like an xbx360 game and ran like poo on fire.
then i tweak it all the way up, and BAM, instant amazement

Lash, I'll try to get to that Sanctuary demo like you asked. I did get a chance to bench Oblivion on these new drivers, and you'll be glad to hear they've fixed some of the performance issues from the last ones. The game is running about 30-35% better than it was on the 8.38s. I also think that ATI has tweaked the IQ a little, because the game is just incredible looking now. However, adaptive AA is a real performance killer. I think the Alphas I was benching with before were using a new form of transparency AA that ATI is working on called EATM which I've heard may be released in a future driver set. But as of right now you're looking at a 10-15fps hit w/ adaptive enabled.

Here are some shots w/ no adaptive (I have a grass mod set to 110):

And here are some shots with adaptive:

Still a ways to go, but it's good to see that they're making progress.

Really? Hmm, that's interesting.

So are you running everything maxed out w/ 4xAA? What kind of performance are you getting at those settings on Vista. Running DX9 or 10?

ten all the way. older games that utilize only directx 9 or 8 early paths arent quite up to speed performance wise though on this card yet i think. i dont mind if the only focus on dx10 personally.
and i run at 1680 res. once again it doesnt do too well at 1024, or even 1280 on my rig, but anything at 1300 or above simply stuns.
tell me how to post screenies easily and i will show you the numbers. i havent had much of anything to post about performance wise i felt until i got with ati. now i cant hardly believe waht i see and hear as more info is released, and these games keep looking and feeling better.

i ahve oblivion. maybe i should give it a whirl again after giving up the 8800gts. i thought the 7800gtx looked better then most of the driver builds for the 8800 anyway.

Huh? 8800 IQ beats the pants off of the 7800 series. :headexplode:

Hit your printscreen key while you're in game and then alt+tab to your desktop, open up paint, and paste. Make sure to save it as a jpeg, and then you can go here:

www.tinypic.com

--to host it. Copy the second address from the top and it will post the picture here in the forums.

And yeah, I have to agree w/ the guys on this one. 8-series IQ is way, way better than 7-series. Even the 1900-series IQ from ATI was better than the 7-series and 8-series IQ is better than 1900-series. 2900 looks very similar to 8-series in terms of IQ, however.

Okay, now I feel dizzy. :headexplode:

The Winter War - "Demolition" campaign:

Average = 56fps
http://i16.tinypic.com/4trj69e.jpg

I hit the end benchmark key just a second too late after the menu came up; that's why the maximum is as high as it is. I thought about running through it again to get rid of that ugly max #, but given the campaign is around 10:00 long or more, it shouldn't have made much of a difference since the FPS is written to the log every second of play, and as you can see from the screens the average is pretty consistent with the FPS showing on the screenshots in some pretty intense situations. If anyone wants to verify my results with their own as far as the time it takes to get through the campaign, you're welcome to. They should be pretty close.

The lowest I ever saw the FPS drop while I was playing it is 42FPS, but I had the counter disabled on the Demolition campaign because it interferes w/ the benchmarking tool. These pics are from the first two missions of the game.

Anyway, here are some screens:

Cool. That's pretty much how the game is running on my 8800gtx in Vista 32bit. I'm seeing similar frames playing that campaign.

Cool deal. It reminded me a lot of how my GTX ran it, so that's not surprising. Even seemed to drop in framerate at the same locations.

Interesting benches. Their conclusions about how both IHV's are holding DX10 development back by introducing poor mid/low range parts is spot on.

Razor1

Yeah for the most part I agree with that, its a cost/benefit thing, the die sizes of the midrange are huge so either increase cost and give the necessary performance or cut back on the size a little and keep the cost reasonable to retain profits. Dx10 seems to eat up alot of silicon.

These ss are taken at random locations. Game play very smooth but I was expecting a bit better at this OC. No worries though there were no pauses everytime enemies came into the scene. Like graw1 was with the x1900xtx doing around 50 FPS. All setting max out as best I can at 1680x1050.

Side note:
I am limited as to what size I can show these photos. Right now they are at a 17".

Some good AA optimization in these latest drivers from ATI. I'm only getting ~2fps hit on average going from 4xAA-->8xAA. Here are some tests that I ran in the Anvil / Kvatch area:

http://i19.tinypic.com/4ouuccm.jpg

And here are some shots w/ 8xAA--the IQ has really been tweaked as well.
