I'm really tempted to grab two of these for CrossFire. I'd have every intention of selling them when a better batch of cards comes out...
Hmm... soooooooo tempting.......

They could do well for the cash. We will see.
That's a much better price than what they want for the XT.

Just put in my Ultra last night. Clocks are at stock (660/2300) since I am still on air and just wanted to do a test run to make sure the card was stable. Have only tested two games so far--Jericho demo and Oblivion; both on Vista 32. Jericho ran noticeably better with the edge-smoothing feature enabled. My XT slowed down noticeably with only 2x edge-smoothing, and I ran it at 4x on the Ultra with no problems.
Oblivion was a different story. I actually think this one is a draw between the two cards in Vista. My XT was at 875/975, and they were absolute mirror images of each other in performance as well as IQ. AA quality and filtering looks to be the exact same on each as well.
Benches can sometimes tell a different story and show #s you don't see with your eyes while gaming, so I hope to put up some this weekend between the two cards as a comparison. But I was very surprised to see the XT performing just as well in Oblivion. At least from what I could tell.

40FPS is low if you're not running AA, but Airborne hits your CPU really hard. It's completely maxing out my Conroe on both cores.
My game stays pinned at my refresh rate on my XT until there are lots of soldiers on the screen.
Time for a quad, MOHA uses 4 cores...mine is on the way

Patience, young samurai... patience. :D
I'm looking at this as a golden opportunity to bench these two cards back to back and obtain some detailed numbers. Later on I'll post some graphs and recorded logs, along with some pictures and OC'ng results on the Ultra.
Just a quick teaser-- this waterblock I bought for the Ultra is pure sex. :p

Well I'll be waiting. I am real tempted to get one of those 1GB HD 2900Pros to play with myself for the hell of it. They are only 329usd and my other rig needs a DX 10 card.

Only $329 for the 1GB 2900 XT? Hmm... two for CrossFire maybe? :D

Benching several games tonight and tomorrow morning on the two cards. Playing with Call of Juarez DX10 right now on my Ultra. I have it running really well @ 1680x1050 and 2xAA with everything maxed except shadows on medium and shadow maps on 1024.
Not sure why everyone can't get this game to run well in DX10, because it's running great for me now, and it looks freaking incredible. The mountains and HDR are definitely higher quality than in DX9 mode. From a distance, the mountains look photo-realistic.
I may hold off on putting my Ultra on water until my Quad gets here this week. It just doesn't make sense for me to take my loop apart, put it together, then take it back apart when my Quad gets here this week. I'll probably just wait and do it all at once when my Xeon gets here.

46fps average in Call of Juarez DX10. This was the mission at the beginning of the game where Reverend Ray chases Billy from his church in town to the bridge. Again, settings are 1680x1050, 2xAA, all in-game options maxed except shadows on medium and shadow maps on 1024.

Damn nice  Looks like nvidia have both xp and vista covered now.Told myself not to install vista again until the performance was the same or better, looks like that time is getting nearer.

Vista is for months on par with XP, so don't hassle for that:captnkill:

Not entirely true, recent comparisons still shows vista lagging behind with 10% or so in some games.Allthough the difference is small i just see no point in giving that performance away. Its only with the 163. series drivers that they closed a lot of the previously larger gap,not exactly on par for months as you claim. Not much excitement in any dx10 title yet for me personally.

Depends a bit on the game, some games perform 10% better on Vista, while others perform 10% less, so thats around on par with :)

Thanks. I'm really hoping for 700+. I'm going w/ a full-cover block to put the core / memory / regulators on water, so I just may get there. Depending on the chip, of course.
Hi Xion
you have the same block its sex
but you got the clear one i have the black one
if you got a good chip probably 700-756MHz
good luck on your overclocking

Anyone notice this?
The 1Gb HD 2900XT sometimes has the odd behavior of putting up more than twice the min frames the 512Mb card does for whatever the reason:

I plan on trying a 1Gb Pro in my second rig. Well when they come back in stock.

Probably because this review was done in August with older drivers. That's probably also why they claim you can't use AA with the Dx10 render path for COH when I'm using 4xAA quite fine with my 8800gtx with newer drivers.
Check out how much difference the numbers are in their newer review of crossfire with newer drivers for both.

I'm puzzled why they still claim AA doesn't work with COH Dx10. It works fine because the ingame AA level option definately makes a noticeable difference even with Dx10 effects enabled. ;)
