Well, Tomb Raider Legend has major performance issues. I won't even bother posting any screens. Seems to be a problem when shadows are enabled.. I'm getting a drop down to 25fps in many areas. With them turned off, the game runs above 45fps most of the time. Happens w/ both drivers, too.

You don't need FRAPS to bench "Oblivion". If you want to save screens you need to remember to start it and run it as an Admin under Vista though. At least that's been true for x64. Under Vista x64 I had to install FRAPS as an admin and run it as an admin for it to work correctly. I also had to create another folder to store its screenshots. For some reason they would not save in the default location. I made a folder called "benches" and pointed the app there for captures.

Go under documents-my games-"Oblivion". Open the "Oblivion" file there with notepad. Find [Display], under it bAllowScreenShot, set that to 1. Printscreen will now save your screenshots to the "Oblivion" game folder under program files.

In game press the tilde key to bring up the console and type tdt. That will display FPS. If it's raining or overcast and you want clear weather for screenshots, ForceWeather 00038EEE in the console will clear it up for a time.

As far as buying things, places have "store hours". That's why the door is locked. Don't try to buy at 4am in the morning. Press T and wait hours that would put you any time between 9am-5pm. Same thing goes for seeing the ruling nobles. If you go to see them late they will be absent from their thrones and in bed. You can always chill on their thrones while they are away if you like :p

Talk to everyone in game and don't be afraid to bribe them with gold if you have some extra and your faction is low. If you have good speechcraft, that's another way to raise faction. Use a joke, flattery, or intimidation. Watch their face before you select the action. If they are prone to like it, they will smile, if not they will frown. If the expression doesn't change they are indifferent. Of course using speechcraft will raise it.

The game has a lot of "hidden content" and it is very deep in that regard. So the more time you take to learn it, the more you will get out of it. I actually enjoyed the side quests and BS stuff more than the main story.

I highly recommend reading this tweak guide-

Thanks. I'll try that comman-line stuff tomorrow. I really should be getting to bed. :o

nVidia's drivers are still bad in Vista. They work well (but not great) for a single card, but flat out are junk for SLi. :thumbdwn:

I really dont see the point in going to vista until some real DX10 games start to surface, by then most of these issues should be getting resolved.

Run XP for now if you want to see the power of SLI.

Vista is pointless anyways. Worst operating system ever together with Windows BSOD (ME).

nVidia drivers on Vista with SLI? I don't know if they are any good, I only have 1 8800. But for my short time using vista (aprox 3 hours...) it didn't cause me any problems. Just trying out the Lost Planet Demo.

The only problem with these ATI drivers is is that they don't work for some games in single/crossfire mode on both operating systems. They need to fix that if they want this card to be sold more. Not many people have that card. I also wonder who is going to buy a XFX 8800 Ultra XXX SLI, that's... scary...

Xion did you patch it ? If not do so,i didnt try it before i patched mine to 1.2 but some performance issues were adressed so maybe that helps.

I don't care if you use a memory slurping, beta software package wich was coded from the ground up instead of from a perfectly working kernell. Tux owns Vista

Vista pwns XP in almost every way other than SLi support- and here is why I say that:

So far, in the amount of time I've been running Vista I only experienced on BSOD- just one. And I was downloading and trying about of temp monitoring apps, and trying to get them to work with the sidebar- so the BSOD more than likely was my fault.

I've had the display driver stop responding in Vista many times- but guess what? That meant only 1 second of down time. If I were on XP, that'd mean countles restarts since when the display drivers stops in XP, XP stops as well. I've even had Windows Explorer stop responding in Vista, but again that only meant about one second of down time. In XP, if a reboot wouldn't have been necessary it'd have taken longer for Explorer to have been restarted.

As a whole, in my experience, Vista is easily 10x the OS XP ever could be. Right now it's a bit shady on the gaming front, but only by just a bit. That's why Vista is my only installed OS at the moment. It plays every game perfectly. It is rock solid stable 90+ % of the time, and if it does "crash" it is only down for about a second before it recovers- literally. The only reason I'm going to dual boot is for testing purposes only, and possible so I can play Oblivion with SLi. It is actually running rather decently with just this one GTS at 1600x1200, 4xAA, 16xAA, GCAA, MSTAA, and all in-game options maxed. I'm sure there are a few places it might dip to just below 30fps, but I can handle that. It is not like that renders the game entirely unplayable. Most of the time it feels as if I'm flying along at 45-60FPS. Can't verify that as the FRAPS counter is no longer displayed (even though it was displayed perfectly when I first fired Oblivion up... not sure what happened after that).

I still don't understand how people can bad mouth Vista. Either it was just bad luck when they used Vista, or they have no idea what they are talking about. Since you guys are fellow enthusiasts I'm obviously going to give ya'll the benefit of the doubt and assume you just had bad luck. ;) For me, Vista is almost God's gift to man-kind. :p Been working like a charm ever since I installed it. :D

Wow, let's not further derail this thread- alright?

You have expressed your blind hatred towards Vista countless times. Everybody and their brother knows you hate Vista, regardless of what anybody else says. So let's just drop this and agree to disagree. Otherwise this thread will end up locked- I can guarantee that. ;)

No biggie. If this problem still exists a month from now, then I'll be a little concerned. At least I have a set of drivers (8.37.4.2) that plays most games well. Only one I've had a problem w/ on this driver so far is TRL. FEAR, for the most part, is a consistent 60fps even though it gets killed in the benchmark test by the GTX right now.

When G80 first came out I was swapping back and forth between different drivers, too. Some were causing lockups, some were random slowdown problems. I can be patient in the beginning.. it's after 4 months of no driver revisions that I start getting peeved. But I won't go there.

Still the same; I kept the Maze. I'm using the stock plates to cool the RAM for now.

From what I've heard, the RAM doesn't really need to be overclocked that much. It already has tons of bandwidth and there are latencies past 1GHz. Primary cooling concern is the core. My goal is to reach 1K on each.

I'll bench performance figures later. Right now my concern is max overclock / temps.

850/925 and stable. 56C load.

I like that, 95% of the time the fps is above 40! Thats what we are talking about! Higher minimum fps on games is what its about!

Thats a great score. I presume this is on 1680 by 1050?
