He used the CP AA/AF settings. FEAR seems to run a lot better using the ingame AA/AF settings.

That still doesnt make any sense. I always use AA and AF through the CP instead of ingame settings and yet it didnt drag my scores down anywhere near the level of muyas when he used the CP settings.

Yeah. Also makes me wonder what drivers he's using. According to him, all he did was switch to Application Preference and set AA/AF ingame.

Something definently is not right because my performance is roughly the same (1-2FPS difference) rather or not I use the in game settings or force it through the CP.

Obviously I will choose forcing it through the CP because the image quality is slightly better when using nvidias HQAF.

If you set HQ filtering mode in the CP, an application that requests 16xAF will also use it as well.

Well I will just keep it simple like I always have and just force the settings through the CP when possible.

Thats the way I have always done it and it works out great that way.

Sometimes a game specifically calls AF on only certain textures in a game. Setting 16xAF in the CP will actually cause AF to be done on all textures, even those which the game doesn't apply any AF to when it's application specified.

The Doom3 Engine does this. It shouldn't matter much on 8800 cards, but on older Nvidia cards, it had an affect on performance. The only times I use 16xAF in the CP is when a game doesn't have it's own AF setting. Same with AA, unless the game doesn't support newer AA modes in the CP.

I usually load Nhancer and set AA/AF for games which don't offer their own ingame AA/AF settings. Games which have their own ingame settings, I usually set to application controlled with "enhance ingame option" enabled.

Some games also have issues when you set AA in the CP. Tomb Raider Legend has shadow issues with the CP AA. It's ingame AA option doesn't though.

Well this was the whole reason that I do it this way to begin with because it offers increased image quality at a very minor performance hit.

I will always do it this way until it gets to the point where games have gotten more demanding. For now the 8800GTX handles any game out there with ease when using the CP settings.

Stable at 875 | 975 now. Load temps have dropped to 51C on F.E.A.R. now that the paste is starting to cure.

It's very strange, but it seems like FRAPS is causing a conflict with the ATI driver I'm currently using. I get 4fps less in the performance test with it enabled. I just ran a bench w/ and w/o FRAPS. My results are as follows:

Without FRAPS:
Minimum: 32
Average: 75
Maximum: 165

With FRAPS:
Minimum: 27
Average: 71
Maximum: 157

I wonder if this is happening in other games as well. Anyway, here's a shot of my load temps:

Whenever possible if a game has its own built in FPS meter use it. Fraps seems to add a bit of overhead for some reason and can drag your FPS down just a tad bit.

As for FEAR I never run the test with fraps. I think FEAR might even have its own built in FPS meter. I will see if I can find it.

How do you take screenshots w/o fraps? I've been running it in all my tests because it's the only way I know to capture screens.

With FEAR and Lost Planet you can simply just hit the print screen button on your Keyboard and then open up PAINT and paste it there.

Of course. There is no right way do AA/AF. It's really personal choice. Doing either in Doom3 doesn't really net any IQ improvements either way though.

I agree, with DOOM 3 I just let the in game AF do the work because that is one game I have yet to ever see any improvements on visually by forcing AF through the CP.

How is the CPU overclock on your new board going XION? I was curious to know if you were having any memory issues or anything like that the way that you did with the asus board.

I couldn't be any happier myself, I feel like I finally have my SLI dream machine complete!

This board is very complicated. You actually have to customize your own BIOS with a development tool from Intel that unlocks voltages, and I haven't had a chance to give it a look yet. Probably by the end of this week I will.

I don't know how high I'll be able to overclock in single-channel, though, so I may have to wait until I can pick up another 2GB stick like the one I have now. Right now I just have one 2GB stick of RAM, and that's usually not very overclocking-friendly.

I've heard it's fairly easy to do, and that 420-450 FSBs are within reach.

Just another chance to learn something new in this biz. :)

Yeah I didnt mean for it to sound like you would have a hard time with it or anything.

I was just like (WTF) because I have never ever heard of a such a thing before. LOL.

Im sure you were like WTF as well.:D

Rob, where does it store the snapshots from F.E.A.R.? I don't see them anywhere. I tried prntscrn, ctrl+prntscrn, shft+prntscrn and alt+prntscrn and it doesn't appear to be working. I've looked for the files all over the place.

It doesnt store them in any particular folder.

Here is what you do-

After running the FEAR stress test when you get to the end where the results display you will need to press (print screen) on your keyboard. At that time either ALT TAB out or just close out the application all together.

Next open up (PAINT) click on edit and then paste. Your done.;)

I know performance in this game is still lacking, but I'm seeing good results from OC'ng this card here. At stock speeds it only gets 61fps avg.

Now I just need that new ATI Tool so I can feed more voltage to her.
