I just installed a new heatsink for my AXP 1800. When I turn it on, it beeps once and then stops. The power/hd lights come on, and the hard drive and cd drives spin up too. But nothing comes on the monitor or anything.

Does this mean I cracked the cpu? I was hoping since it did do the one beep that it actually was still fine and that mebbe I just messed up a connection somewhere...??? And I don't really want to pull the heatsink off again because if it is still good, pulling it off and putting it back on just makes the chances for me screwing it up even higher. Please help! :)

Ok, I used the jumper to reset the BIOS, and now it turns on. Which is good. BUT, I can't set the FSB speed back up to 133mhz where it's supposed to be without it causing the problem from above (one beep then nothing).

So right now it's sitting at 1100mhz (100x11), and for some reason won't go up to 1.53 like it's supposed to.

Any ideas?

Uhhh... is there a jumper to set the FSB?

Nope, no jumper, just a BIOS setting. One setting for 100/133, and one for 1mhz stepping.

actully, if you want to get technical, the jumper resets CMOS, its like a BIOS function. I dunno about the CPU speed though, thats very odd. Try calling a computer place and getting some info over the phone. I know of this one phone number, "We will fix any computer problem over the phone toll free." which is actully a really good service, but i dont know the number off the top of my head, ill check it out for you though. :D

Aighties, I didn't crack it, thank pancakes. What I did do is put the heatsink on backwards, so that only about half of the die was actually contacting the little copper slug. I was used to the TT DragonOrb which was one solid piece of metal, and it never crossed my mind that this one is different. hehe. Oh well, nothing's burnt up, so that's all good. :D

And I got it back up to 1800 speeds when I put the hsf on the proper way, it worked out much better that time. :)
