I recently decided to take a swing at building my own PC.

Here are the stats.

Antec 900 Ultimate gaming case.
Antec 650 Watt power supply.
Asus Crosshair Mother Board. Asus Striker Extreme. AMD FX 64 - 62. (2.8 Ghz). Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Asus 8800gts OC/ 640 meg.
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB DDR2-800
Vista Home Premium.

I build this system for around 1400 Canadian so I think it was a good build.
How do you think this system will stack up? Was thinking of going SLI with another 8800 gts.

3DMark06 9487 using 158.45 drivers.
Anything you guys think I should add to help boost performance.
I am using this system on a Dell 2407 Ultrasharp Monitor. (1920X1200)

Cheers

Edit*** Spoke to the computer retailer and was able to upgrade my system. Just completed the Installation of the new Hardware and the new OS. Looking forward to doing some gaming.

Where is the Core2? Why the AMD?

Would have liked to go with Core 2 Duo. But the price was right on the AMD system. Like I said the hole system was around 1400 Canadian Dollars.

ehhh wtf a Core2 E6600 beats the **** out of that AMD FX60 and is allot cheaper.

Can you PLEASE quit beating him about his CPU choice? He has sufficiently explained his choice and you have no right to bash him on it.

A lot cheaper? In Denmark it might be!

How do you know that he didn't get a really good deal on the FX-62? And the FX-62 is nothing to slouch at, anyways. Maybe he didn't have the money for an E6600 or something. Sheesh!

Actually, that score is a tad high considering it is an AMD processor. My E6600 @ 3.5Ghz scored lower than that on the 100.65's!

If you want to 'up' your score and performance, you've basically got one option: overclocking...The FX-62 should at least be able to get 3.0GHz, but it quite possibly could take more than stock cooling. The 8800GTS's are great overclockers. Most can hit 600MHz, as far as I have seen. A friend of mine had his GTS on water @ 660.

Thanks for the backup IkJadoon. Yeah I am well aware the Core 2 Duo outperforms the AMD chips. But for $1400 including the Graphics card in Eastern Canada this is a pretty decent deal. And if I wanted a Core 2 Duo I would also need a new mother board and I have a FX 64 -62 not the 60. CrossHair is only AM2, then again I am sure you knew that. A Core 2 Duo board here is quite a bit higher.

As for overclocking I can hit 3.1 Ghz with the processor and the GTS is holding steady at 625/1010. When testing my GPU with ATITool I could hit 640 on the Core before Artifacts and eventually a hard shutdown. (Only did that test once lol. Tested the gts quite a bit at 625 MHZ with ATI Tool. I also hear that there is no point in overclocking above 590 Mhz due to the Shader multiplier, don'y know if that is true or not) I could hit 1093 on the Memory before seeing artifacts, drop it back to 1010 and no artifacts for over 20 minutes.

Highest temps on my GTS with the Antec Case has been 79c. This case has awsome cooling and the fact that it is still quite cool here.

It will get over 5.0 in the Vista benchmark, probably like 5.1 to 5.4ish. My system, which is lower in proc and memory speed got a 5.0 total. Graphics was like 5.9 on the 8800. :)

I went back to XP though. (nana2)

Welcome.

I didn't think there was a FX-64 -62? What is that?

I think you can go as high as you want on the core. It is just harder because it is linked to the shader speed, which doesn't like to go very high. As soon as we can unlink them, we should even higher core speeds.

My rig gets a 5.7 in the WEI; my hard drive is what is holding me back as it only scores a 5.7/5.9...

I think he should hit at least 5.4 in that.

I get a 5.9 for everything in my system except for the HD that gets a 5.4 >_>

Look again. Your modestly overclocked 2.8GHz CPU shouldn't be scoring a 5.9. Probably 5.6 or so.

I live in Australia and I could of made a better system for only 1,515.90 CAD...
Hardware prices suck in Australia you need to know where to look... I am sure if you took the time and researched you could of done better...

Antec 900 Ultimate gaming case.
Antec 750 Watt power supply.
EVGA 650i Ultra Motherboard
Core2Duo E6600
Asus 8800GTX 768 mg
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB DDR2-800
Vista Ultimate

Back on topic I think you would probably score at least 5.1-5.2. But thats just my opinion...

@henrybravo: You are correct about chiklit I set my dads E6600 to 2.8 and scored 5.6 the first time then 5.5 the second and third time :thumbdwn:...

The RAM wouldn't score that high either.

I was going by memory so you were right about the CPU. The RAM really did score 5.9 though.

The RAM wouldn't score that high either.

WEI is completely screwed up on RAM. A guy like me with 2GBs of cheap DDR2-800(@ 770 with 5-5-5-15, mind you) scores 5.9. A guy with 4GB of DDR3 at DDR3-1600 will score the same, as 5.9 is the highest.

My above-average OC on the E6600 only scores me a 5.8. Massive OC on a quad-core, I think, is needed for 5.9....
