Hello!
I have a big probleme with Nvidia drivers and Linux Mdk 91
This is my procedure:
I get Nvidia_GLX/Kernel src file
I Install Kernel Mdk 91 sources
I do a rpm rebuild on Nvidia pilote
I use rpm to install it
rpm -ivh Nvidia*.rpm
after that, I go to /usr/X11
I edit XF86Config-4
I change Driver "nv" to Driver "nvidia"
Well, all done
I try to startx, the X windows arrive but crash
My card: Geforce 4 Ti 4200
It say first, nvidia.o load success and after
It say fail to load Nvidia Driver
Do you think Nvidia will do a Mdk91 driver soonly ?
thx for support
If I understand the error message you're referring to, it says something very much like "failed to initialize NVIDIA kernel module", right? If that's the error, and if nvidia is loaded (check lsmod), then look at your kernel logs (either the output of dmesg or the file /var/log/messages, near the end). If the module can't initialize itself properly, it may still load, but it'll fail there, and it'll log the reason it fails.
It very likely has nothing to do with Mandrake 9.1, or the way you built the driver. It's probably something with the motherboard or BIOS -- probably the latter, which is good, because BIOS settings are changeable (assuming you didn't buy this motherboard from some company (*cough* Dell, Gateway, Compaq, etc. *cough*) that decided you don't need to see those BIOS settings, that is).

I am having the exact same problem...I've wasted about 10 hours now trying numerous things...the /var/log/messages don't say anything....what would we change in the bios?
No, you're not having the exact same problem. I've read the other messages that you've posted, and your problem is just a blank screen. That is completely different from an X server failing to load because its driver won't initialize. The blank screen doesn't have a solution that I'm aware of, although (as was posted for you in another thread) you may be able to get it to work by enabling twinview.
