Well, I was in the ATi camp, but after the disappointment of the R600, I finally went with a G80. My system at the moment is:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.51GHZ (390x9) - watercooled
2GB Corsair XMS26400C4 RAM
EVGA 680i SE Motherboard
EVGA 8800GTX Superclocked (2nd card has been purchased and will be here late this week - thaks Venturi!)
Creative X-Fi Fata1ity
2x 74GB WD Raptor drives in RAID 0
CoolerMaster Real Power Pro 850W PSU

I installed Vista Ultimate x86 and installed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and gameplay was FAR more superior to my X1950 Pro CF setup. I was able to max all settings, played for well over an hour and the system was quite stable.

Only problem is the size of this card! Imagine fitting all I described above into a Lian-Li PC-65B case! It is NOT pretty right now. The 8800GTX is less than a hair away from the 2 Raptor drives and I had to redo my water tubing to make it fit. The 2nd one will not be an issue though as it is much lower in the case. The GTX was right around 85*C during gaming and the CPU never broke 50*C. The temp of the case hit 44*C at full load, pretty cool for what is in this little case. I'll get some pics later after I clean up the cables a bit more.

I thought I bought a modular cabling PSU!

UPDATE: Ran 3dMark06 and took a screenshot with the results:

Added some pics of it in the case:

That sounds a lot like my system... and I'm lovin it!

Congrats dude! Nice OC btw. :D

EDIT: is that 1.5V core 24/7 stable? I can only get mine to 3.2Ghz @1.3v 24/7 stable.

Hmmm with that card and that overclock I would have expected a much higher 3dmark score.. closer to 14k?
As my mate runs a E6420 at 3.5ghz and a 7950GX2 and gets around 9500. Thats on XP tho.

Still sweet machine.. going to be getting myself something similar soon.

Thanks guys!

The system is stable. I actually hit 3.6GHZ (400x9) yesterday...

The temps are much higher than I would hope for them to be though. I need to remove the waterblock and make sure I put a the right amount of AS5 on the proc. If the temps don't lower, looks like I'll be putting some higher flowing fans on the waterblock.

I expected higher than 11788 too. I hit 11957 yesterday after I hit 3.6GHZ. I haven't tried overclocking the card yet. I'll be easy on it for now.:D

You'll be getting better scores if you OC the Video card a little too. I got my 8800 GTX to 660/1060, and it got me a score of about 12.3k on a 3.45Ghz E6600. You will probably get about the same at those settings. ;)

I'm getting around 10.8k with an E6600@3.6Ghz and 8800GTS 640 @600/1000.

Cool system you have their, if you oc that videocard you'll probably reach 12.5k.

Yeah, I played Halo2, Splinter Cell Double Agent and I am pleased so far with performance and IQ. I think the IQ has improved since the 7000 series. Either way, I'm a happy man! I need to get the temps down a little on my proc but I'll take care of than after the UPS comes with my 2nd 8800GTX today.(nana2)

congratulations=)

your temps are extremely high for watercooling, although the heavy oc'ing probably raises them quite a bit.

anyways, i just want to help out.

i think the heat would be reduced by using a Panaflo ultra high volume for the exhaust, and one of their fans for the water block.

they're loud, but they'll bring the avg of all of your temps down by about 15 C.

edit: i see that win vista takes up about 2x as much memory as xp. that's scary.

A very small case may have something to do with the temps. I think Raging is aware of that though

2nd GTX is in the box! And a quick bench...

http://ragingws6.dyndns.org/www/8800sli.jpg

I have a lot of tweaking to do still. I am going online to get some new fans now. The system temp has skyrocketed from the 2nd GTX being in the system.

The system is ultra quiet right now, just like I like it. But, I feel if I am going to keep this system at 3.6GHZ, I will have to make it a little louder. I don't want the system running this hot. As we all know, heat kills components.

Yeah vista uses alot more memory as its stores more things in memory in order to make it faster. I think they went wrong with that somewhere along the line. But thats why it uses heaps of memory. When you load up a game of 3d rendering app for example the memory is release back to the application when it needs it.
Its a good idea in theory, just doesnt seem to be so crash hot at the moment.

No wonder my system was running slow!!! Windows Update installed the 100.65s silently.

With the 158.45s installed...
