Bought it last friday (Europe here), & i finished it last weekend (8-12h of gameplay).

Overall, the game is very good, the gameplay is awesome & the difficulty is high.

But, the gfx quality is worse than in Legend, cause it hasn't next gen mode, so, no shadow casting, no shaders on Lara's skin, ...

There's also a note to the players. It says that TRA is a tribute to the players, for their years of fidelity. But if it was truth, we should have next gen mode on the PC version, cause, the PC was the 1st home for Lara adventures & it deserves a respect due to it !

There's no 360 version, & that's prolly why PC version hasn't next gen mode. :thumbdwn:

Although Next Gen provided overall better PQ and effects, it had strange problems with lighting at times. But still, i wish it would be available in Anniversary

Got it, and loving it. It has a few annoying little things like the autopilot'ish controls, but overall it is excellent so far. Much bigger than Legend was. Graphics are about the same as normal mode was in Legend. Screw "next-gen". It was buggy, ran like total ass, and really did not look better. Just different. Some things looked better with it, while others just looked wrong.

A couple handy tips I've learned so far:

1. While guns are drawn, pressing the "use" button reloads weapons.
2. Using manual aim helps hit some items you need to grapple, and pull on, that otherwise your grapple seems to just bounce off of (bugged?).
3. Mouse + Keyboard with weapon mode on "Advanced Toggle" works way better than gamepads in my opinion, but if you insist on simulating a console (poke jab poke), the "Display HUD" button centers the camera behind Lara. Using KB+M is like holding that button at all times unless you move the mouse to look. Much better.

I actually prefer how the controls are when I used my 360 controller on this.

Got it via STEAM, played the mansion and up through T-Rex...

1. Nice update to visuals, as mentioned, Legend without the buggy next-gen cruft. A couple small glitched with shadows but I would bet they will be fixed with a driver update.

2. Pretty much the original game intact with some bullet-time and some minor details fleshed out.

3. Control is decent but not stunning, playable but the camera fights you a little more than it did in Legend.

4. Well worth the low price of $30.

Check out a handful of screens I took in the screenshot thread in the sticky section, running at 1680x1050 with 4x AA and all details cranked.

I grabbed it last Friday. Been playing in what little spare time I have. Loving it so far. Although once you master the quick kill thingy... It's so damn easy!

I renamed the .exe to trl.exe to get SLI to work in Vista as the profile for TRA did not do anything. I am having fun with this game - old school Tomb Raider gameplay with updated graphics.

I Fuc.. hate games who has an auto center camera and you cant disable it.every game should have that.shame on all devloper morons who dont implement it!

And what is this **** motion blur that you cant disable..making me dizzy.

I played the demo and thought it seemed kinda bland. Not just the graphics but the gameplay to but then maybe that's how Tomb Raider is meant to be.

I bought it through Steam and have briefly played it so far. I like it a lot as I liked Legend. Not having the next generation mode doesn't bother me at all. I personally didn't like the look of it in Legend much (didn't like the way it made the characters look) so didn't use it. Legend (and Anniversary) looks fine without it. If anyone didn't like Legend, most likely they won't like this one either as the games are very similar. Legend was (and still is) a very enjoyable game to play for me and so is this one (so far).

I'm playing it exclusively with an XBox 360 wireless controller under Vista at 4xAA 1920x1200 all settings maxed and its very smooth. The 360 controller works perfectly on this game. I recall the original game and while this is a remake, its also very different at the same time. The puzzles in this one are also much more difficult than in Legend which is not a bad thing.

Overall a good effort by EIDOS. I'd love to see them redo more older titles. This one is well worth the $29.99 from Gamestop.

Thanks for the info. I hope to pick this up at BB this weekend and plan on using the x360 controller with it as well. At least start out that way and see how it goes anyway.

Maybe they will make next-gen content with a patch if it isn't already in the game. Maybe it's there but inactive. Who knows...

I just find it really funny how Lara does that little stretch and bounce crap in the menu. Completely unnecessary boob jiggling, but pretty funny.

She actually does all those same moves when just standing in the game also (if you let her stand long enough to go through all the moves).

the original tomb raider is about puzzle solving and grand locations.

you want non-stop action and uber graphics? play Just Cause.
well I didn't think Legend was so bad. maybe this one is a dif style.

There're some speculations about a 360 version with 'next gen'.

http://www.tombraiderforums.com/showthread.php?t=97336

The game is absolutely amazing & the gameplay is better than in Legend.

But, how can't you care about the gfx quality in TRA after Legend ?

If the game developers think that we're happy without it, then, forget about 'next gen' for PC on TR8. Less work for them & more money.

Also, what will you think if the TRA version of the 360 features 'next gen' mode ?

The engine as it stands has some minor issues with shadows and water reflections, and if we judge it by Legends next gen, that mode only made those shadow issues more apparent.

I really don't care if there is a next-gen upgrade, this is such a MASSIVE boost over the original release that I find it to be "good enuff" for now. Give me TR8 with the same kind of quality they delivered on Legend, let's consider TRA done.

I'm about halfway through and I am finding the frustration level to be getting higher than the fun factor for me. I guess for some, a good game means challenge, challenge, challenge with the "pull your hair out" element of difficulty. I'm not one of those people. I like a game that has "atmosphere", "fun factor" and not having a frustration level to the point of playing a section umpteen times just to get through it (when it was something that the game controls made it a lot harder than it should have been to actually do). And these timed modes! I'm too old for this!!!. A "save anywhere" function would really be nice here but there's not one.

If I do end up finishing this game, dunno if I will play it again. I'm more of a low key player that likes to take his time, have fun, and not having to feel like breaking my monitor while I'm playing a game because of frustration. I'm more of a "Legend" kind of guy.
