This is probably already posted somewhere but I'm not seeing a link to it, so I'll post it. From VR-Zone:

According to the graphics card makers, NVIDIA may be cutting prices across the board soon and advising some of their partners to keep their inventory low. GeForce 8800 Ultra should be receiving the biggest cut and price may fall to as low as US$599. 8800GTX and 8800 GTS prices may be lowered as well to better compete against the Radeon HD 2900XT. 8600GTS and 8600GT should receive some price cuts as well when HD 2600 and 2400 cards start to flood the market. It seems that NVIDIA is adopting the price cutting strategy to put down their competitor before they have any chance to recoup any market share.

it pays to wait.

In many ways it does. I've been extremely tempted to get that Core2 Venturi is selling for $150. But if I wait till the end of next month I'll be able to get a Q6600 for only $116 more. Yup, I'm waiting. Also, if they drop the prices on the GTX enough I might grab two of those. :D

This is good news

So for around, eh...600, I can probably snag another card, and upgrade to quad core!

WOO!

Then, If i want to further upgrade, I could snag a p35, or wait till the x38 hits, and just make sure its a ddr2 board. I dont feel like paying 500 for 2 gbs of ddr3 ram right now lol

Have you noticed that Newegg has DDR3 for sale? Only one pair- 1GB x2 DDR2 1333 at 9-9-9-24. :p And for a mere $493. :p http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145182

Anyhow, Abit (I believe they're the company) is making a mobo that supports both SLi and CrossFire. Has six ram slots- probably 3 of which are DDR2 and the other 3 would be DDR3. Would be neat if all six slots were DDR3 that was backwards compatible with DDR2. :naughty:. 24GB RAM FTW! :captnkill:

My upgrade path is the Q6600 for $266. Then later that CrossFire + SLi mobo based on the X38 chipset I mentioned earlier. As for the video cards... that is to be decided yet. ;) Oh- and it'll all be on water as well.

Sometimes it pays to wait...but I've found that the majority of the time it's better to just buy it now. Otherwise you end up waiting forever. There's always something newer, better, cheaper on the horizon.

Thats about the route im going as well

Quad CPU, probably q6600, or maybe the 6700 when it is released
Another 8800GTX, sli baby! both at around 630/1000
And il throw in some liquid cooling as well, and overclock everything!

So probably, quad cpu around 3+ ghz, and sli'd g80's runnin around 650

That'll make things run SMOOTH as all get out
