What a dismayed card, look like it will not sell well.

Maybe if it costs $150 it'll sell... no wait, thats the 8600gt's price point. $125 and it'll sell, guaranteed ;)

Looks like it's going to get beat by the 8600GTS and that's a shame.

If it sell at $150, it will be flop and nobody will buy it as they will go to get Geforce 8600GTS instead a few tenners at $170 found on Google and here is a cheapest Geforce 8600GTS sell at $134. The cheapest Geforce 8600GT is $109 so if AMD want HD 2600XT to sell like hot cake it has to be $80, not $150.

Oh I forgetten about upcoming Nvidia's price cut on top to bottom Geforce 8 series cards when AMD shipping both HD 2400 and 2600 cards, I guess Nvidia will cut Geforce 8600GT and GTS by $20. Soon the cheapest Geforce 8600GT would cost $89 and $114 for Geforce 8600GTS so after Nvidia price cut, AMD really cant compete with new price.

lol Intel goes nuclear:

match the four nuclear QX6800 processor

n1 google ;)

It seems that ATI doesn't have a winner here, again. But there's still room for driver improvements.

If they would have made it at least 256bit buss instead of 128bit it would have been so much better ,I really thought ATI would have come out with some low to mid range cards that would beat nvidia's cards, but I guess not.

Its the principle of the thing that is really bothersome.

"supposedly" 120 "stream processors" from ATi cant even compete with 32 "stream processors" from Nvidia. Just like the *cough* 320 "stream processors" that the 2900Xt has barely compete with 96 of the Nvidia model.

this 2600XT is clocked at 800mhz and has about 4x the number of "stream processors" or "5-way Alu's".. Yet it cant compete.

I know the old adage about different designs but in this case the concepts are fairly similar. It is pretty clear that the R6XX series designs are just fundamentally flawed in their design per mhz and watt of power.

I don't think that anyone having any knowledge of this field should buy any of this series of cards. Its telling the engineers at ATi that this level of incompetence is acceptable.

(and trust me if you think i am an Nvidiot you don't have a clue who i really am.)

Agree. The talent level difference really shows here. nVidia engineers are on the winning team.

Yes, It seems like at least with this generation the engineers at Nvidia "get it" and the engineers at ATi "lost the way" and cant even find the tunnel let alone see the light at the end of it.

Delusions of grandeur. In most newer titles, the card stomps the GTS. But don't let the facts get in the way here.

Ok,

Perhaps you could provide one of these magic links that demonstrate this?

I don't know about stomps... faster sometimes yes but not stomp lol :captnkill:

This guy's the master of selective analysis. Turn up the AA and AF and watch the 2900XT die in so many reviews I'm tried of reading about it.

Yep,

The XT is a soggy turd trying to compete against a marvel of beautiful graphics engineering.

I guess some people just have to justify their impulsive and fanboyish purchases.

If you want to talk about "selective analysis," then you're a perfect case of it. I have told you over and over, until it should be tattooed on the inside of your eardrums by now, that the 2900XT does just fine w/ AA and AF enabled on newer titles. And I have also posted benchmarks to prove it.

Go here for a bench on Oblivion w/ 4xAA, 8xAF where it beats the GTS and hangs w/ the GTX:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=1278583&postcount=324

Go here to see Rainbow Six Vegas running 80+ fps w/ 16xAF.. just as well as a GTX on the R600:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=1284985&postcount=689

Go here to see Test Drive Unlimited running at a constant 55+FPS w/ the hood cam @ 8xAF, 4xAA.. same as the G80:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=1290254&postcount=859

Guys like yourself are an absolute trip. You won't believe anything unless it puts the G80 out in front.

You won't acknowledge that these newer games run very well w/ AA and AF enabled (and not just in MY benchmarks; they're on the web for anyone who looks), yet, on the other hand, not once have I ever argued that 2900XT struggles somewhat with these enabled on some older titles. The only distinction I have made is trying to open some eyes to the fact that newer games play much better with the same settings and don't take as much of a hit.

So you can shove your "selective analysis" analysis where the sun doesn't shine. And you can also take a look in the mirror. Your impenetrable bias is not my problem.

Yes, I'm a "fanboy." That's why I owned 8800GTX SLI just a few months ago.

I'd sing more praise for the 2900XT if it didn't draw so much damn power.

Xion X2 I agree with you I really love how there are so many closed minded people here.

These closed minded people base everything on what gets the highest mark in benchmarks. I for one when I purchase look at the price to performance and also the image quality. This why I have a 8800GTX as when I got it, it had the best price to performance tag for what it is being used for, in this case my main gaming rig. If I was to by today I think I would go for the 2900.
Now my best mate needed to upgrade his 7600 and has just got himself 2900XT 1024MB version. It cost the same as my card did when I got it £330. After putting both against each other (we have similar PC specs) and I see FPS differences but the games play does not seem slower at all when playing games. Some times his IQ seems better and some times mine look better again this is only what I perceive.
For me its and its nice to see that ATI(AMD) have not got a top notch card again and brings competition! into the market which is always a good thing for seeing price drops.

Yea but as each new GPU comes out they draw more power I think they need to take a leaf out of the CPU makers and use some sort of clock throttling at least when they are in 2D or Areo mode.

Some really get defensive. As for me, I've owned both and have friends who have owned both and really don't care. It just gets under my skin a little to see people saying things that are completely uninformed and false.. based mainly on the fact that they're still quoting benchmarks from over a month ago and don't own the hardware themselves.

I mean, I've owned both Nvidia and ATi.. have friends w/ both Nvidia and ATi cards.. have tested both extensively. Those who are saying 2900 can't hang just don't have a clue. I just came back from a friend's house this past weekend who has an 8800GTX. Test Drive is playing identical on both cards at the same settings, and it's probably the best looking game out on the market right now. Oblivion is pretty much the same.. his GTX looks to maybe be a tad quicker but not by much. They are extremely close on that game. He and I can sit down and appreciate what kickass cards both of them are for running games that look that good as well as they do.

I guess I just don't understand why most others can't do the same. They want to get all defensive and start trashing the product, when the reality is that they don't know a damn thing about it and won't give it a chance.

I mean, look at the facts. It's a DirectX10 card, and the first thing you always hear from guys is "LOOK IT GetTS POWND GY GTS in FEAR< DOOM 3, PrAY, etc etc.."

That should speak volumes. Two-three year old game engines, and they're making a determination on the card's fate already. Never mind the fact that it came out just ahead of the GTX on the most recent DX10 Call of Juarez benchmark:
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2147119,00.asp

--and never mind the fact that it's about on par w/ the GTX on most of these newer games. No, it's just a piece of @!*((! and ATI should get out of the graphics business so we can all enjoy our $1,000 Nvidia cards of the future that push the envelope of innovation far less due to the lack of competition in the market.

I just don't get these people.

That's cool, man. Both are great cards for sure.

What's interesting about those benchmarks is that even though the demo is using Shader AA resolve for all cards, Nvidia's cards still take a lower performance hit from enabling AA. It's merely a 3d demo from a dx9 engine with added dx10 effects though.

Company of Heroes is also a Dx9 engine with Dx10 effects tacked on, but atleast it's an actual playable game.
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2143675,00.asp

It'll be interesting when both technologies are put head to head in game engines built on Dx10 from the ground up.
