View Full Version : Anyone else getting a Pioneer BDC-202BK BD-ROM?
Its supposed to be out in the UK in the next 3 weeks. I'm tempted to pre-order it but worried that it might be a lemon. Reviews of it aren't very detailed at the moment. So, is anyone else getting one?

BD-ROM, you mean for PC?
it better be cheap. I personally not in big hurry to get anything. So far the only thing that did catch my attention is that 4X LG, but it cost over 1200, last time i checked.
Yeah, its a sata internal blu ray drive for PC. Well, its just a bit more than an xbox 360 hd-dvd drive.
Yep I have it on preorder from here. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-048-PO
I'm buying a BD writer, not ROM drive.

you think its worth buying something that is that expensive and burns dvds at 8x and bd at 2x?

I can't wait to finally step up to hi def and watch Casino Royale in 1080p sweetness.

I've got an xbox 360 HD-DVD connected to my PC/HDTV and the picture quality is astounding. The only problem is I've watched Tokyo drift about 5 times in HD and Batman Begins about 4 times in HD (including last night). As blu ray has the other half of the HD catalogue, I am desperate for a blu ray drive and some new films!

There are some drives that read both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray available now for around $500, IIRC. I know LG makes one, don't remember the exact price of theirs though.
EDIT: Not only does LG make one, it can also write dual layer BD-E (rewritable blu-ray discs) as well as read HD-DVD.

I don't think it would be a good idea to buy one of those for quite some time. Burnable blu-ray discs and HD-DVD discs are insanely expensive, and will remain so for a long time (currently they are upwards of $20 per disc.)

that LG Cost close to a grand

note: there is one store that has it for 650, but when one store has the price at 650, and every other store has it at 950-1300. I would research that low price and the store before making a purchase. something looks fishy.

No, I don't have a big enough HD to take advantage of a BR drive.

Wha?
The BDC-202BK is expensive for what it is really (just a bluray reader). But at $299 (£150) its going to be the cheapest way to watch bluray and its about what I paid for the xbox hd-dvd add on anyway.

I already have a PS3, so my next Hi-Def purchase will be a Blu-Ray Burner or a Blu-Ray/HD DVD Burner when they get down to the Sub $300 level and the discs are <$7.50 A piece...

Actually... http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=BD-r $10 for a verbatim from newegg.com, but I know I've seen em as low as $7 a disc. It is in one of the other threads for the BD drives.
