View Full Version : Intel Nehalem to Feature Triple-Channel Memory Controller??
But Intel wants to go even further and scale the number of memory controller channels. According to PC Watch web-site, the top Nehalem processor code-named Bloomfield with four cores will have triple-channel DDR3 memory controller, whereas slightly less advanced may have less channels.

now that is interesting...wonder how would desktop parts be with triple channel memory....

Aren't you glad you waited for a processor upgrade?
Oh wait

Looking forward to Quadcore next year! :p Penryn derivative..or whatever it's called.... 3Ghz on this E4400 ;)

Intel knows that memory bandwidth is critical for multi core computing.

Nehalem !!!
Triple channel? Does that mean boards will come with 6 dimm slots or just 3?

Well the Abit board that supporst both CrossFire and SLi (it utilised the X32 chipset) had six ram slots. Not sure if that was for support of triple channel ram, DDR2 and DDR3, or what not. But it'd be cool if the board supported triple channel ram. That'd be a dream come true- as that will more than likely become my next mobo. :D
The boards will have 6 memory slots. They are currently under validation.
DDR3

DDR3
That would mean memory configurations of 3 GB? 6GB? 12 GB? instead of the traditional 512MB or 1 GB or 2 GB or 4 GB etc Hmm... triple channel kits ahoy!!
All I know is that the B01 revisions are currently not being tested, that some 2.0 GHz barca samples were tested and that this is a DDR3 in triple dimm arrangements.
How that works, I dunno because I am not sure if there will be a fundamental change in memory design due to the benefits/limitations of DDR3
Hang on I thought u were talkign about Intel CPUS? U on about Barca having triple channeling too?

Triple Channel Memory.
Hmmmmmm.... sounds sexy. ;)

Hmmm....like a threesome? :naughty:
I don't like the sound of it. Quad channel is better. Three just doesn't compute.

64+64+64 = 192 bits
NVIDIA have done something similar... 6 ...sextuplet (sic) channeling? 6 x 64 bits and 5 x 64 for GTS
They work well for NV
Maybe Intel will rename there CPU the Cornfield after having 6 rows of DDR3 slots.

Threesomes are overrated... women get too defensive and that just throws all kinds of head games into the mix :p
